* I’m taking Oscar to the groomer and then I may run a couple of errands. Please keep the conversation Illinois-centric and be nice to each other. Thanks.

*** UPDATE 1 *** Heading back to pick him up, so you’re on your own again. Previous rules apply.

*** UPDATE 2 *** Yeah, he’s not happy with me at the moment for putting him through that experience, but I think it’s a nice haircut…

  4. Rich…….you really have a nice looking dog. I missed the Post on what breed he is. Just wondering. I like his size too. Not too big or small.

Wanted to comment on this the other day but the thread had already gone too far off topic. Thank you, Rich, for writing a great zen koan using my nickname. “The horse race begins in Earnest.”

  6. Yesterday’s story about the Tribune. Last week’s story about the News-Gazette. The merger of Gannett / Gatehouse. The “empire” of Brian Timpone. Boy and Girls, be “vewy vewy afwaid” …

  7. Weather in central Illinois looks good for the start of firearm deer season. My family think I am crazy, but I love it.

Sitting in a tree listening and watching for whitetails is better than listening to the news.

  8. Whats the mayor of Orland Park thinking, trying to close down a Church that lets homeless people stay overnight once a week? No wonder he’s a Trump Delegate.

Illini, I was at the game last night in the 2nd row. They looked pretty good. If Cockburn can sharpen his footwork and posting skills as the year goes on, he’s going to be hard to handle for other teams.

  10. Last Bull Moose-
You said it. If there’s anything more therapeutic than being in a stand surrounded by nature, I don’t know what it is.
    Deer or no.

Illini: I’m not sure Underwood can coach the talent he has. They continue to struggle against teams they should be blowing away in the first half of games.

And Arizona exposed the team as lacking ball handlers, prone to long scoring lapses and really important, a thin bench.

The B1G is full of teams whose coaches have seen Underwood’s style and know how to beat it. And some of those same teams are as talented as Arizona.

Just not ready to say this is a Tournament Team.

  12. @Illini. I have to quit thinking about politics
I thought you were referring to Lora Underwood

Comment by DuPage Saint Thursday, Nov 21, 19 @ 10:31 am

  13. @DuPage Saint,

I think you mean Lauren Underwood. That’s where my mind went, too. But then, I don’t follow sports, except insofar as politics is a sport.

  17. Saw three eagles today. One adult sitting on a tree down on the Vermilion River in Danville, and 2 juveniles flying high over the Middle Fork. It’s great to see these majestic birds back in the Land of Lincoln (banned punctuation):)

  19. I almost miss the daily outrage and continuing self-immolation of Rauner. It was a compelling daily soap opera, at least. I almost miss it. Almost.

Comment by IllinoisBoi Thursday, Nov 21, 19 @ 12:19 pm

  20. The parole of Chester Weger is a miscarriage of justice.

I generally oppose extraordinarily lengthy sentences.

Nor do I see any public safety benefit to the incarceration of an 80 year-old.

But a murderer who has not accepted responsibility for his actions and has not apologized to the families of the victims for the harm he has caused should remain behind bars until he has.

  21. @LBM and efudd,

I’m right there with you. Can’t wait to watch the sun come up over the trees tomorrow morning and see what comes strolling by.

    @Anon221,

It’s so nice to see bald eagles become almost ubiquitous in parts of Illinois. About a month ago I almost hit one that was standing in the middle of the road just around the bend from New Salem. Thought it was a vulture at first, and was surprised by the white head and tail as it flew off. Never thought I’d see the day that eagles would be so populous again.

  24. Yes, he’s very cute. But Labrador Retrievers do not need grooming and haircuts. You save a lot of money when you own a Lab.

Comment by downstateR Thursday, Nov 21, 19 @ 1:40 pm

  28. With the dog blanket and dog car seats, my Lab seems to get hair everywhere and what I save in grooming fees is made up by the time I spend vacuuming the car and taking to the detailer every 3 months. … still worth having her go for rides with me.
