* Oscar was born on Thanksgiving Day in 2012, so today is his 7th birthday. Here he is after a long celebratory walk…
* From earlier this week…
According to archived posts, I found out on this day 10 years ago I would be moving to Springfield to intern for @capitolfax. Of course, nothing significant happened afterwards. /s

* When Oscar met Barton…
Heh.
* The Question: Have any good stories about either your favorite pet or your favorite intern?

Had a summer help one year. Smart as a whip. Kept telling her not to “kill the job”. The task should take a few hours to complete. Every single time, Bonnie would be done in about half the time I said. Spent too much time trying to find work for her. Great worker.

I’m a teacher and o had a fabulous student teacher who worked with me. Passionate, caring, risk-taking, all while learning and asking questions about how to improve, and doing so with a great attitude.
She’s been jerked around by my district a bit in terms of having a full time jobs, but she’s currently filling in her second yearly leave of a sense, and I hope to high heavens my school finds some way to keep her.

The first time I took my son and my dog out pheasant hunting (when he was old enough and responsible enough to handle a shotgun) is something I hope I never forget. I did not carry a gun that day, only worked the dog and watched my son and our beloved bird dog work together. Honestly, it brings me to tears thinking about it, it was one of the most beautiful and fulfilling experiences of my life.
The highlight was our dog on point and then my son taking his first rooster with a single shot. His elation was second to my. I have many proud moments as a father but this was a special moment for both of us, together sharing our passion and it was made even better (in fact couldn’t happen) with out our beloved companion, pet, and hunting partner by our side.

Once had an intern try to explain to me why it was more important they attend a reception hosted by an association instead of finishing their budget analysis for the next morning’s budget hearing. I was so dumb-founded I didn’t even know how to respond.

Happy birthday Oscar, you are loved as you so easily love others. You’re a good boy.
I’ve had a couple dogs in my life, both so different, but the live they showed, and the loyalty, There’s few things more warming than a dog’s love.

No one remembers number 2! He was Rich’s intern, but I enjoyed teasing Kevin Fanning back in the day.

We have a basset hound. I’ve come to learn that bassets have an uncanny ability to stretch and reach things they shouldn’t. A few years back, we took the turkey out of the fridge to thaw and placed in in the center of our island in the kitchen then ran some errands. Returned home to find the turkey had been dragged off the island and onto the floor, and the dog tore into it.
