I was open to the argument that Blago had served enough time until I heard his speech this morning. This scoundrel doesn’t deserve any sympathy. He blames everybody except himself. He compares himself to true victims of an unjust justice system, of which he exhausted every avenue to exonerate himself— opportunities that the less privilidged do not have. He deserves a one-way ticket back to prison.

Agree, well said. However, did anyone really expect Blago would do and say anything other than what he is doing and saying now. Anyone who did probably also expected Trump to have acted differently after the Senate vote. And we have to put up with Chuck Goudie riding the plane home with him. Think I’ll gather all the news I need on the weather report. (OK, and CapFax.)

Can we please stop with the speculations on Blago running for office again. First, but for Mell, he never gets elected to any position in the past. Now, he is a convict. He would soon slide back to the obscurity he always deserved.

I’ve been of the mind that 14 years was excessive, but I think Lightfoot has 100% nailed it here. I guess I shouldn’t have expected anything different from Blago once he got out, though. Trump saw his own lack of conviction as exoneration, Blago sees his commutation as exoneration. As the Mayor said, hopefully this is the last thing that needs to be said about him…but I do fear it might not be.

Lightfoot really captured the moment well. And her comments so perfectly reflect the state of our news media today. Blagojevich walks free because of his notoriety and the actions of a corrupt president. It’s a privilege that other convicted felons are not afforded.
