The artist LL Cool J will no longer appear at the 2020 Illinois State Fair Grandstand, according to social media posts by the fair.
A statement on the fair’s Facebook page and the Grandstand’s web page Monday evening said, “LL Cool J is no longer able to perform at the 2020 Illinois State Fair. The Department of Agriculture will announce another performer in the weeks ahead and looks forward to welcoming popular artists like Toby Keith, Chris Young and Kane Brown to the Grandstand this August.”
The performance was announced Jan. 31 and scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19. Tickets had not yet gone on sale. The event was still listed under “concert dates” on the artist’s Facebook page Monday night. No further information was available.
* The Question: Your suggestion for a replacement artist/band? Explain.

I think Flavor Flav is looking for work.

The Rock-afire Explosion
Unlike other animatronic shows of the early 1980s, the Rock-afire Explosion was designed to be life-sized, with most of the performers being about the size of an average adult human.

Who wouldn’t be up for another Foghat concert?

The Disco Biscuits, because they are exceptionally groovy, musical, original and make you want to dance, and appear to be a bunch of very nice guys. I believe they would be a draw.

REO Speedwagon . . . . a band originally from Illinois. Their hit “Ridin’ the Storm Out” describes our state in so many ways.

Ladies Love Cool James will need to be replaced with a similar sound and it looks like Boys 2 Men have an opening during the fair from their residency in Las Vegas.

Nelly is performing at Sangamon County Fair in June if I’m not mistaken. As for a replacement act, Styx (although rumor is they may be appearing with George Thorogood in a yet to be announced show)

fs, Snoop is going to be in Aurora this summer. Kind of hope they call it the
“Hey, Naperville, smoke em’ if you got em show”.
My request would be Big Big Train, but that isn’t going to happen
Comment by OneMan Wednesday, Mar 4, 20 @ 1:51 pm
Maybe a comedy show, like Jim Gaffigan.

Love L.A.’s Flavor Flav suggestion. Sticking with that theme, I’d offer to expand the bill to include Lindsay Buckingham, Randy Meisner with a special holographic appearance by Brian Jones.

Morris Day and The Time. Because they are still out there, soon to be at a Prince celebration in Mind and if we can’t have Prince, let’s have a part of Purple Rain.

Snarky Puppy is a hot funk jazz group. Grammy level work. Packed the Riviera in Chicago.
Here Come the Mummies have played in Springfield, Peoria, Effingham, and St Louis. Terrific show.

Not sure the timing would work for any of these bands, but the following acts are touring this summer, so theoretically it could be possible to book:
What’s left of the Eagles.
Santana
The Who
Mettalica
Ozzy Osbourne
Styx
Def Leppard
Rod Stewart
Guns n Roses
Aerosmith
Journey
And others.

The Doobie Brothers are doing a 50th Anniversary tour with Michael McDonald. They are scheduled to play in St. Louis on August 14 & KC on August 15, then don’t have another show scheduled until the Minnesota State Fair in August 28. Why not add the Illinois State Fair to their schedule?

Wyld Stallyns, so they can support the new Bill and Ted movie.

Wilco would be a solid choice. David Lee Roth fronted Van Halen would be fun.
The Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, Mumford & Sons . . . . many possiblities.

“Or maybe something even funnier, like the Rod Blagojevich” Can we make it like a reverse Gallagher thing where we smash watermelons *on* to the stage?

My faves: Santana or The Decemberists
Some excellent more recent acts: H.E.R., Tank and the Bangas, Florence + the Machine, Gary Clark, Jr., Trombone Shorty, Brittany Howard/Alabama Shakes, Khalid

If you want to keep it in the same genre’, Chance The Rapper might be a good guy - and he’s local. Li’l Wayne’s on tour this summer. Maybe go another way: John Legend and Nora Jones?
Or JB could pull some strings because Paul McCartney’s touring this summer.
A lot of possibilities in this list: https://concertful.com/tour-dates/2020
