Hopefully the Illini can pick off a win or two in the BT tourney and land a 5 or 6 seed in the Big Dance.

My wife and I got our Vote-By-Mail ballots yesterday in the mail. I think that’s the prudent thing to do in light of the. Covid-19 pandemic.

Hoping the Illini can get Trent or Griffin to be another scoring option. If not, the Illini will go only as far as Ayo can take them. We all know what happens to B1G Big men in the Big Dance, Kofi will have two fouls before the game starts.

The Bradley Braves will be dancing again.
Let’s not forget how petty Bradley Basketball was last year with the PJS beat writer, and hope Bradley learned from that and will make this trip more enjoyable.

Biden might sweep the primaries today, making him the all-but inevitable democratic nominee. That plus coronavirus might give us a low turnout next week.

with Bradley and Illinosi going to the NCAA tournament, good luck to UIC tonight!

does Illinois have a state song?

I hope so Oswego Willy. Their coach continues to come off smug, which, congrats on your wins but you’re not that dominant in the MVC. Still so frustrating that more teams in Illinois don’t at least compete for a dance spot.

Yes. “Illinois”, by civil war veteran Charles H. Chamberlain

Love the Braves.
Agree with OW, but that incident was unlike the BU Coach in the past. He seems like a great coach and a good mentor for the team as well as being a good representative of the school.
In closing, Go Braves!

Both Northern Illinois & UIC are still alive for a tournament spot, but both are #4 seeds in their conference tournaments.

Yeah, the coach, whom I won’t name, is quite… smug. I get The Valley doesn’t get the love it deserves, and getting second-guessed is part and parcel of being a coach, but at some point it’s not much fun to see someone be combative or smug for no reason.
I hope it’s a feel good story this time in Peoria

Yes. “Illinois”, by civil war veteran Charles H. Chamberlain… Thanks OW .
is it something that is regularly played at Illinois events?

UIC is playing for their conference title this evening. They knocked off the #1 seed yesterday.

I am middle aged and have lived in IL my entire life including college and don’t recall having ever heard -or known of- that song.
Learn something every day. Thanks OW

Here is a simple you tube of Illinois song. It is beautiful both words and music. Illinois kids used to be taught to sing it in grade school.

- jimbo - and - Amalia -, you’re welcome.
- Responsa - thanks for the link.
Yeah, it was taught. I think high school choirs sing it too at some graduations(?)

The University of Illinois Marching Illini plays an up tempo version of “Illinois” during their pregame shows. It’s a standard for them.

Calling them “dominant” in any fashion is a bit of a reach. Their highest finish has been 4th, but they’ve gotten hot (and lucky) for three days the last few years.
Illinois teams have started coming to life over the last handful of years. Illinois State should’ve been in back in 2017, the Loyola run In 18, Bradley the last two years, uic on the brink this year, maybe Northern…I’d say that’s a pretty good amount of teams competing for bids.

To say I am disappointed by Loyola’s performance last week would be an understatement. Congratulations to Bradley for the second win in a row, I look forward to watching you play at the big dance.

I had to learn/sing “Illinois” as a 5th grader (I think) in honor of the state’s sesquicentennial. I also had to learn what a sesquicentennial was and how to spell the word.

Yeah, a chance for redemption on the big stage again, plus, let’s hope Bradley gets to the next weekend of games to showcase the strength of the MVC #TheValley

I learned “Illinois” in grade school, and still remember:
By thy rivers gently flowing, Illinois, Illinois,
By thy prairies verdant growing, Illinois, Illinois,
Comes an echo on the breeze, and its mellow tones are these,
Illinois, Illinois.

Gotta say, it was a blast watching Loyola make their run to the FF two years ago.

The couple of times I’ve been to the Lincoln banquet in Springfield, Illinois was sung by the Illinois Bar Association Chorus. Which is not actually a thing, it’s just a bunch of lawyers with heavy theatrical background who show up and sing. I don’t think they rehearse or anything, but they have great voices.
