* If you haven’t watched this yet, please do so now…
I don’t have much time to myself these days, but I felt I needed to make sure everyone knows how I feel about this Stay at Home Order. Which one motivates you the most to stay at home? #StayHomeSaveLives pic.twitter.com/pDbCdySMQk

* This is happening all over and it’s heartening, but I do hope these distilleries can survive…
Witness Distillery, a craft whiskey distillery in Vandalia scheduled to open in the fall, is now making hand sanitizer.
The distillery is following a recipe from the World Health Organization. Ethyl alcohol is combined with hydrogen peroxide and glycerine to complete the mix.
The company isn’t selling the hand sanitizer, but rather is distributing it to the local law enforcement agencies, Fayette County Hospital and local ambulance service and health professionals.
* Yep…
The governor said one thing was clear from recent stories of communities coming together to have sewing clubs making masks or people seeking to donate their federal stimulus check to the state’s efforts, Illinoisans are stepping up.
“It’s within each and every one of us to tap into that spirit and hold on to it,” Pritzker said. “Each and every one of us has the generosity and tenacity to see ourselves through this moment. Let’s allow it to carry us through these times together and some time, someday soon, through to the other side.”

The larger distilleries will be fine, but smaller craft distilleries are in much more trouble. The smaller guys depend much more on bars and restaurants for their revenues, since they can’t produce in sufficient volume to compete at the liquor store on price.
As to making hand sanitizer, the biggest problem is that the FDA still won’t let them use regular alcohol. The fear in a normal market is that children might try to drink hand sanitizer, such that the alcohol has to be denatured. However, I think we can all agree that children drinking hand sanitizer supplied to hospitals and first responders is a pretty minimal concern at the moment. If now we could only get the FDA to agree . . .

Just once I’d like to see a speaker before a group say, “I’d like to thank each of you (‘each and every’ is redundant) for your…..(whatever)”, then pointing to each, go, “Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you….”. Five or ten minutes later you will experience the made up term, “Evaporation of Appreciation”.

Lori Lightfoot is responding well to being a meme.
She’s got her priorities straight.
Stay home.
Our models are optimistic because our data isn’t perfect.
Stay home.

Lighthearted Lightfoot with a serious message — I love it.

Using denatured alcohol also means that distilleries don’t have to pay federal excise tax on the alcohol used to make hand sanitizer. That saves around $500 a barrel.

She is the Saul Berenson of U.S. mayors. Throwing doors open and storming into meetings….. love it.

I have got to say that I did not vote for Lightfoot and I was unimpressed, to say the least, with the way she behaved when she initially took office.
But she has stepped up. She’s doing what must be done, with seriousness, grace, and humor.
And, contrary to initial expectations, she is working well with the Governor to present a unified message. Kudos.

There have been some seriously good revelations in the past several weeks, including the fact that our Governor is a good human being, and the fact that Mayor Lightfoot has a very nice sense of humor - didn’t see that one coming. And of course the fact that they’re working together well is another pleasant and reassuring surprise.

Quite true and TTB should waive the revenue, but being taxed is a lesser headache. For example, even if the FDA doesn’t sanction you for breaking the law, there is still risks such as denial of insurance coverage if you have an accident.

The video in the mayor’s tweet, is the captioning/subtitles working for you guys? (I’m deaf and live in Chicago…. so… yeah…)
