The second image in press release is ICU only. Why? Because that's where things are indeed tight (though fixable). He omitted broader regionalized hospitalization data because there is excess. He is playing games by selectively releasing partial data — and getting away with it.

Pritzker said regular beds can be converted to ICU-like bed with a little effort. If no regular bed shortage why is he demanding huge additional fed help for more regular beds? And why is he demanding PPE sufficient to cover all regular bed even though not needed?

Because, first thing you need is a negative pressure room. You can't just convert any room into an ICU for COVID patients. And then you need the equipment (including ventilators, heart and oxygen monitors) to fill it. It can be done, but it is not done with "a little effort"

His whole point appears to be that some hospitals aren’t overwhelmed. OK, but nobody has ever once claimed otherwise. And he never did get back to me with an exact quote or a link to Pritzker’s alleged claim that hospital beds can be converted to ICUs “with a little effort.”

Wirepoints gets the privilege of being able to sleep at night without having to wonder if you did enough to save the people whose deaths you had to announce that day. And he gets to go to sleep without worrying what tomorrow’s body count will be and if in few weeks we will have enough space to treat everyone who depends on us. That must be very peaceful.

Clearly I struck a nerve today with our thin-skinned Governor. He singled me out in one of his low information pressers today for writing an article that demanded some measures of accountability.
How dare his subjects question anything.
This is what is so dangerous with these people. If you dare to question them, they will misrepresent you and accuse you of promoting policies that will “let people die.”
What a bunch of sick, dishonest and unaccountable group of people.

He didn’t single anyone out. He answered a reporter’s question that was specifically about Wilhour and didn’t so much as mention Wilhour’s name in response…
Reporter: How do you respond to Rep. Blaine Wilhour’s suggestion that the longer we’re quarantine that the more we delay herd immunity, which could ultimately lead to more people getting the virus?
Pritzker: Okay folks, let me just point out that Great Britain went by this theory that perhaps if we just let everybody get it then everybody will get hurt, we’ll have herd immunity faster, and everybody will be okay. Well guess what, if you let everybody have it all at once, which is what happens when you just let it go, you overwhelm your healthcare system and more people die. A lot of people can die. And so the suggestion that we should just let it happen so that the herd immunity occurs faster is an invitation for us to just let people die. And I won’t do that. I will not do that.

It amazes me how little effort it takes for Mr. Glennon to make himself look daft.
As for Mr. Wilhour, words fail me. It scares me that people vote for people like him when he clearly should have absolutely nothing to do with making public policy.
Both of these guys need to go away. Far, far, away.

Mr. Wilhour is a buffoon who still can’t grasp that his ridiculousness is being mocked and the Governor is in no way being “held accountable” by someone so willing to think herd immunity is even in the neighborhood of the past king lot of the ball park to saving lives.

I’m fine with the Guv releasing more data if he has it, but Wirepoints and Glennon are both making huge assumptions about why he isn’t. And I’m not sure the general bed count per region would be a gamechanger, even if converting them took “little effort”.

I did just read his op-ed and oh my, what a horrendously incoherent diatribe against Big Government. The point of self-isolation is to allow herd immunity to develop at a manageable pace. The fact is that until testing is widely available functions of society will be started and paused continuously.

I cannot imagine how utterly exhausted JB and his team, IDPH, IDES and all their staff must be. They have been at this a billion hours a day - literally just trying their best to anticipate what’s going to happen next and the best way to save the most lives with unpredictable resources.
The fact that they have to *also* spend time responding to cranks is maddening.

That has been the strategy of the National GOP at least since Gingrich’s 1995 Contract on America proposal to fund a tax cut by massive cuts to Medicare, if not since Reagan’s 1981 proposal (via David Stockman) for massive cuts to Social Security. It’s quite juvenile to make the remark Jordan Abudayyeh made. Citizens should be able to question the governor without getting a non-sequitur remark from the governor’s office suggesting that the questioners don’t care nor appreciate the responsibility the governor has. That’s besides the point. Wilson, FDR, LBJ, GHWB, GWB, Lincoln all had deaths of soldiers on their consciences. Should they have been immune from criticism or questions before, during, and after the war?
The push to release as accurate and informative data and information as possible is critical to the success in mitigating and extinguishing this outbreak.
I know Mark Glennon. Mark Glennon cares deeply about this state, returned to it after his professional life took him elsewhere, contributed greatly to the entrepreneurial community, mourns the condition of the South Suburbs where he was raised, and wants the state to once again become an economic powerhouse. He’s not particularly optimistic right now, but the attacks lobbed at him portraying him as someone who doesn’t care or who roots for the state to continue its descent into insolvency is slanderous, simplistic garbage.
But sure, dismiss him as “far right” and “trying to sow the seeds of doubt.”
Why should I have any confidence in the city of Chicago or the State of Illinois to get anything right?

Often his “suggestions” are ignorant to the political realities, the honesty to the suggested path, and baiting for the simple idea to stoke anger because he knows his own suggestion is an impossibility.
If I need that, I can call my “in law uncle” married to my favorite aunt and ask a question about living in Illinois and let him rant for 45 minutes.

TJ Brown, the governor released a lot of data. It’s not clear what the data being asked for would prove, and there is a clear implication from Wirepoints and Glennon that this emergency is as bad as it seems, which is a dangerous idea to entertain when literally all the data we have shows that hospitals can be and are being overwhelmed.

positive weeks after being rehabilitated, and some
have worse symptoms the second time around.

The National Tavern Association projects 110,000 bars and restraunts will be shuttering their doors. Happen to know a coffee shop locally that threw in the towel. Are you thinking retail malls are coming out swinging? I may be arguing like a child, but I know not everyone is a sheltered by a guaranteed govt paycheck.

Isn’t it fascinating how a crisis drags out of us what we’re really made of and really value? How some people react constructively, compassionately, humanely, while others can only carp at being inconvenienced and worry more about a dollar lost than a life spared? How some people can cope with uncertainty and ambiguity, while others fall back on hearsay, rumor, and anecdote? The small minds and spirits — you know the crowd: “a few thousand lives saved vs. millions ruined,” “I happen to know,” “why don’t they tell us,” “90 percent empty.” You know them. Empty shirts you wouldn’t want standing beside you when the crunch comes. Sort of like now.

I think when he/she referred to Trump’s “wonder drug”, he/she was referring to chloroquinone, which has not been doing well in trials. A French study just ended because of cardiac side effects.

I though the 2.2 stimulus bill was supposed to help small companies, the bars and restaurants and coffee you mentioned. You seem to doubt that they will be helped. So you must think the Trump administration won’t distribute the money efficiently, or effectively or fairly.

Yes, there will be tragic consequences. Too bad it came to this for us to realize that. Of course there was an opportunity to get ahead of this back in January. But you and many others were so intoxicated by the “Trump economy” that you couldn’t see the forest through the trees.
Instead of hoping for a cure that’s likely months off, perhaps its time for a little self-reflection on how we arrived at this point in history.

Two thirds of people who go on a ventilator for COVID 19 never recover. Therefore flattening the curve is needed, but the real hope is a vaccine, not herd immunity, whether fast or slow. Don’t get it at all, and wipe it out before it can become seasonally reoccurring, or we’ll be shutting down in the winter again.

Glennon’s approach isn’t all that different than Ives. Start by being outraged and work your way back to identifying the missing information that fuels that outrage. It’s finding a problem to create the straw man for your grievance.
I would also like him to identify the hospital with 90% vacancy given his desire for transparency.
