Sometimes the only way I know for sure it’s the weekend is because comments are off on CapFax. Otherwise it’s just yesterday, today, tomorrow and repeat.

Went pretty well. Blew off some steam at a huge house party on the west side.

Our area of Springfield was pounded by rain for hours between Friday night and early Sunday morning. Had almost 6 inches of rain by Sunday 5 AM.
Basement flooded, sewer back flushed but still got the Sunday night grilling in.

I limit wine-drinking and fattening foods to weekends, so the weekend was fun.

Grilled really expensive and GOOD steaks. Made a vow to cut out buying coffee daily post-COVID so that I can have really amazing steaks every week.

Tiny Dancer, that is some will power. While I’ve been fairly consistent on the food front, the alcohol consumption is up — I drink about 5 nights per week. I need the weather to improve so i can work in more exercise. The weight has crept up. Still within normal range, but approaching the higher end there. This normally happens in May with the end of session gluttony. Maybe my body is just working into its traditional cycle, regardless of my intake/activity level.

Anyone have a strong opinion of a smoker grill? I have a 3 burner gas grill and my sister is bragging about her Traeger. Anyone out here giving smokers/Traegers a strong endorsement?

Miserable gloomy day on Saturday with the cool and rain (necessary for the lawns and gardens) but lovely day yesterday, milder and sunny. It was very nice getting sun and social distancing with in the yard with neighbors who needed to be outside as well.

Saturday was wet. Sunday was very nice.
“Blew off some steam at a huge house party on the west side.” Um, that’s not how this is supposed to work.

=== Traeger ===
I’ve had a Traeger for years. Love it, but if I were buying new right now, I would strongly consider the Pit Boss pellet grill. I believe Traeger’s patent has expired, so more competition now.

Rec Tec if you want to go the pellet smoker route. Hasty Bake for the charcoal/wood route.

I thought Rich’s analysis of the pending lawsuit challenging the Governor’s Executive Orders was well written and quite fair.
The difficulty going forward is that the Emergency Management statute, itself, was not especially well constructed and it is going to require a judicial opinion to sort out some of the ambiguity contained the text.
I agree with Rich that the decision could go either way.

Engaged in some essential travel over to Champaign for some take out BBQ from Bobo’s. Mmmm, good. Best cornbread on the planet. All day yesterday outside working around the house. So great weekend. Little sore today though.

I find myself looking forward to Mondays as there are a lot more people outside on the weekends when I’m trying to stay indoors. Went for a walk this morning, mailed some stuff and scored a copy of “Hillbilly Elegy” from a Little Library.

Engelbrecht Grills & Cookers - locally made in Ford County by hand, and seriously the last grill you will every buy.

= I need the weather to improve so i can work in more exercise. =
I do 75 - 90 minutes a day on the elliptical which is situated in front of a TV playing PBS and C-Span 2 Book TV. . I find repetitive exercise extremely boring, so this makes it bearable, even fun.
Take it slow and easy at first - go for length of time as opposed to speed and loading. You will eventually get stronger without even noticing.

Watched an episode of the Jordan documentary for the first time. Interesting perspective on Rodman, and I realized how valuable he was for the team despite his antics. It brings back the smoke & grit of the old Chicago Stadium, which we don’t have in the United Center.

We’ve had a Green Mountain Daniel Boon for a couple years. It’s been great for smoking since a warranty replacement of the main board for a wireless issue.

Visited my niece and nephew (from a safe social distance), so that was nice.
Otherwise, the days pretty much blend together in a gray haze.

It’s not that I don’t like bright, sunny days. I do. But I love dark, dank, rainy days too. I spent Saturday afternoon listening to the rain and reading Stephen King. Bliss.

After a relatively good couple of weeks, work stress is getting to me once again. Did a 24-hour news and work fast, got outdoors for walk and yardwork, watched bad-in-a-good-way sci fi movies. Intended to do carryout and eat too much, but the appetite’s just not there–down 14 pounds since mid-March. Fortunately (or not) I can easily spare it. My little row of peas made it past the snow and is coming up along with two spears of asparagus. Cherry bush is blossoming and I think I’m getting close to lilacs.

At our house, weekends tend to be a reminder of what we can’t do, so they’re harder to get through.

Finished cleaning the one garage workbench off. One more to go.
Got my weekly grocery run in … but it was early Sunday so no beer. Next time …
Rain here made me glad I no longer have a basement.
Nice weather part of the time so being outside helped.

Weekend was good — evaded mowing the grass, which will now get out of control because of impending wet weather, but it was fun to be irresponsible. Got some reading done, took in some more good wine. Definitely need to get more exercise. Tried to decide if signs for the future are more negative or more positive, got confused, took on more good wine.

My weekend was great. I didn’t answer phone calls or emails, watched shows with the family, drank good wine. I am trying to get back to some sort of “normal” schedule and not treat every day the same. How was yours Rich?

More baking: Earl Grey madeleines on Friday (the batter is refrigerated so I can make a few at a time) and a challah on Saturday.
Had a Zoom book club on Saturday, and started a teleconferenced “Do It Yourself Mending” class on Sunday. If I learn something, I might actually fix some things that have been lying around.
