* Background is here if you need it. I heard about this number over the weekend and couldn’t quite believe it, but the Clay County Circuit Court is apparently going to allow 90 people into today’s hearing on Rep. Darren Bailey’s lawsuit…
The hearing is set for 1:30pm in Clay County Circuit Court in Louisville.
Media are being asked to gather about 1pm for health screening and guidelines, then are to be admitted about 1:15pm. Social distancing will be in place in the courtroom, so only about 90 people will be accommodated in the courtroom.
The presiding judge, Michael McHaney, was contacted over the weekend by representatives for the governor, requesting a continuance in the case, but the request was denied.
What could possibly go wrong?

A way to point out that the Governor is wrong is to follow the White House guidelines voluntarily. By packing people into close quarters they are proving the Governor’s point.

In no way is Mr. Bailey a helper in this crisis, and it appears every decision to hurt people and continually choosing to put people in peril is on brand for a member of the Hateful Eight.

I read that the media will start gathering for health screening and guidelines. Will there be health screening for the general public too? This seems like a disaster in the making with Bailey encouraging the public to attend.

Rep. Bailey is and has been problematic throughout this entire situation.
The “Common Sense Tour” that displayed not only no common sense, but broadcasted a portion live on facebook that showed the group illegally entering a closed state park.
This situation developing today - surprises me not in the least. Especially when you consider during his last presser he literally laughed at my question regarding entering the closed park, and offered a very vague answer regarding how could he reconcile his actions given the per capita rates in his district.
This stunt today is a travesty and I can only imagine the eventual fallout to the masses who continue to insist this a “Chicago problem” that doesn’t affect downstate or southern Illinois.
Take a long hard look at what is developing in Randolph, Jackson, Jefferson, Jasper, St. Clair and Perry counties currently and tell me again how this isn’t a downstate issue?

Think some folks in southern Illinois feel this is more about the constitution of the United States and Illinois. That regionally with common sense local officials they could make a open responsibly . And I hope eventually the US Supreme Court can weigh in and rule for the citizens/government. Despite the polls.

Lemme guess, you’re also a type that the courts can’t decide how you live your life in “other” things too. This is a tiring exercise, the phony discussion of activist courts, but the need for courts to intervene.

This only makes sense if you believe that Darren Bailey’s common sense is superior to the scientists and doctors who have implored people to stay at home. There’s nothing to suggest that’s the case.

Went by Lowes and Menards. There were easily over 700 customers in each.
Didn’t go in.

Nobody is keeping you home. You are free to come and go as your please.
Nobody is keeping you from gathering to protest.
The state has always had the ability to close a business due to health issues.

Why? It’s an opinion. I thought the goal of the exercise to put 90 people in peril for a grandstanding is to get a court ruling.

Those pews look like they are 12 feet so they can maybe accommodate two people. 2 rows of pews with two people in them every other pew, but let’s say every pew and people stagger so it’s two and then one then two. That would mean the rows would have to go back 15 pews to make sure 90 people are safe.

This is breaking my heart. BREAKING MY HEART. Are the deaths in Italy a Democratic hoax? The virus is non-partisan, and I am terrified about what will happen when it gets loose in rural areas that are already under-resourced. People are going to die — and the deaths will not be limited to the people who show up in this courtroom. And as a Cook County Democrat, I just want to say — none of the people who show up today are expendable, and I get no malicious joy from their decision to place partisanship about their own health and the health of their family, friends, and neighbors.

Soccer mom, I’m in La Salle County. We have 44 positive, 1 death and 677 tested.of those, my city (pop. 7,200) has 9 confirmed with only 60 tested.
My fellow downstaters need to get their heads out of the sand. I’ve seen posts about Darwinism in action, but these people are spreading it to those most vulnerable.

just drove through Louisville the court house café across the street from front door of court house is open so all 90 can have a meal before going in to court house but it only seats about 35 people so hurry also there are a few good people in clay county please do not consider all of us as stupid

Let’s look at the Cook County Medical Examiner ledger and observe the prevalence of extreme comorbidities in the deaths attributed to the Rona.
Let’s look at how many deaths are from nursing homes.
Let’s look at how many deaths are over 90.
Let’s remove all those from the counts.
Let’s wash our hands, Social distance, and go back to work because poverty kills, too.

Abbey, anybody who talks about “Darwinism” in this context has never, you know, studied Darwin.
It’s horrible that more people are going to get sick because we have made public health a partisan issue. And frankly, I think all the snotty jerks talking about “Darwin Awards” are part of the problem. It’s not particularly persuasive to tell someone to do something because they’re stupid and you’re not.

In a way, I appreciate the Clay County courts doing this. If there are going to be experiments as to how fast and how far Covid-19 will spread following a crowded gathering, I’d much rather those folks down there be the guinea pigs instead of people in my area. What happens when you jam 90 people into a small space during a pandemic? Will no one get sick? Will everyone get sick? I don’t know, but Clay county republicans are apparently ready to volunteer their supporters in order to find out the answers to these questions. It’s a public service, when you think about it.

Care to run the numbers on how many otherwise healthy people in this country might have modest circulatory system issues that could get out of hand fast should they contract COVID 19?
Anyway there are solutions to poverty that don’t automatically necessitate manuevers designed to kick people who live on the margins off the unemployment rolls.

It appears that Colorado is seeking an effective compromise and recognizing that urban areas are not necessarily the same as rural areas. This is something I have been saying for quite a while.
A select piece of this policy:
Gov. Jared Polis congratulated Eagle County on Thursday for being the first Colorado county to receive an exemption from the state’s executive order on coronavirus restrictions.
Eagle County was the first to show it had met the state’s parameters, including two weeks of decreased cases as well as full testing and monitoring capabilities for suspected cases.
“The rest of the state is about a week to 10 days behind where Eagle County is,” Polis said. “It is really appropriate that one of the first and hardest-hit counties is the first to really have your act together in a way that has the full confidence and support of the state of Colorado.”

It’s far too early to even attempt a general return to what passes for normal. As for Second City Cop Blog, the authors also manage to report on things the lamestream/mass media don’t ever question or investigate. Like any blog, readers must check and verify sources, weigh evidence, and not run with blinders on. There are trolls and conspiracy theorists on Cap Fax also, which does not negate its overall value and service to the people of Illinois.

Police powers like this have been held constitutional since 1905 when the Supreme Court upheld measures taken to curb a smallpox epidemic. It’s a frivolous, grandstanding suit brought by a Downstate bumpkin who has been eating too much greasy food and drinking too much of Trump’s Kool-Aid laced with Lysol. The proper remedy for the complaints of this tiny minority is the ballot box, and time will demonstrate that JB’s response has saved thousands of lives. The AG does have more important stuff to do right now, so this act inflicts real harm.
