About that poll the governor mentioned

Posted in:

* Gov. JB Pritzker mentioned a poll today in his daily media briefing. That poll was conducted for my subscribers, but now that it’s out there (grrr), I wanted to make sure y’all knew the toplines before someone else published them…

Do you approve or disapprove of the job Donald Trump is doing handling the Coronavirus outbreak in the United States?

Do you approve or disapprove of the job JB Pritzker is doing handling the Coronavirus outbreak here in Illinois?

Do you support or oppose the current stay at home order in place here in Illinois?

Are you concerned that states might lift their stay at home orders too quickly or too slowly?

Subscribers have crosstabs.

* Methodology…

This poll was conducted between April 23rd and 24th, 2020, using a blend of automated calls to landlines and live-operator calls to cell phones. In all, 800 interviews were achieved among registered voters in Illinois. 320 of these responses came from cell phones. The Margin of Error for this survey is +/-3.46% at a Confidence Interval of 95%.

  4. Left, he is and he knows better. Anyway, let’s get to the topic at hand now that it’s out there.

  5. Not surprised by the JB approvals. Am a bit surprised Trump is polling even that well.

  6. === Am a bit surprised Trump is polling even that well.===

When you think about the Eastern Bloc folks and the polarizing this pandemic has caused, he’s still under water. The fact that Illinois hasn’t rallied to POTUS during crisis is a bad political omen for any POTUS.

  7. 18%. Maybe now the media can stop running continuous stories about a minority of a minority and their anger over their current inability to get a haircut. Possibly provide several days of nonstop coverage to larger groups of Americans, like those who believe that the earth is flat or those that believe the moon landing was faked

  8. Great numbers for the guv. Who gets lost in the controversies are Republican voters who support careful reopening of the economy and stay at home efforts. Who among ILGOP leadership is speaking up and standing up for them? The radical and very unpopular voices need a rebuttal.

  10. I’m not sure where best to leave this comment, so this post is as good as any: Rich, you typically do great work, but you’ve really raised it several more pegs during this COVID pandemic. I’m not sure when, or if, you sleep. Thanks for your tireless effort to keep us well-informed.

  11. Ask again in a week.

Comment by Bored Chairman Tuesday, Apr 28, 20 @ 4:35 pm

  12. Ask again in two months.

By that time the state and nation will have a much better grasp of this issue.

Everyone always wants to find a loophole when it comes to polls. All polls are snapshots in time. So, bite me. If you want another poll, you pay for it.

  14. Should take it again after Pence went to Mayo Clinic and didn’t wear a mask. If I was a patient there and he’d tried to visit I’d have gotten out of my deathbed to throw him out. What an arrogant (series of banned words and punctuation.)

  17. - Viola -

I’m guessing polls you disagree with are often met with “well, they don’t poll me”

I say that because instead of discussing the results, even if you disagree, the first issue was how you’re not polled.

Dunno if the benchmark should be if you, yourself, are polled.

    The end.

  19. I am curious to see a breakdown in Illinois from Chicagoland to downstate.

Based on what is making headlines, it seems that there is quite a divide.

My prediction is most still support the job Pritzker’s doing downstate, but perhaps at a smaller margin.

Comment by Mr. Hand Tuesday, Apr 28, 20 @ 7:00 pm

  20. The polling is bad for the pro-virus crowd. So the continued stunting must be good for fundraising

  21. == Based on what is making headlines, it seems that there is quite a divide.==

I think that the numbers disagree, which is why I’ve been harping on the media coverage of this today. I think there’s a lot of projecting going on in the press, just assuming that this is another left/right issue because it’s a convenient way to frame the story and divisiveness sells. But it really isn’t, and both state and national polling show it. The vast majority of republicans, independents and democrats all support these stay at home orders. At least for now, that may change if this goes on a whole lot longer or if the states opening up don’t see an increase in deaths

    Comment by Lester Holt’s Mustache Tuesday, Apr 28, 20 @ 7:20 pm

  22. I would like to know how many of those who approve of the
Presidents’ handling of this crisis are actually watching, listening and absorbing his press conferences. The internal use of disinfectant was said in the April 23rd press conference.

  23. Besides blaming China, What the ‘H’ has Trump done to lessen the Coronavirus outbreak? This is down right scary:

“Do you approve or disapprove of the job Donald Trump is doing handling the Coronavirus outbreak in the United States?

    Strongly Approve 36%
    Somewhat Approve 12% [48%]”
