  2. Huh.

So thatโ€™s how Pat Quinn is keeping busy.

  3. Desperate people do desperate things. Will he travel? Will he expand into yard clean up, even painting?

Comment by Froganon Friday, May 1, 20 @ 9:17 am

  4. You’re complaining about someone mowing your grass, without being asked, gratis?

You don’t have a care in the world.

  5. Some people are nuts about their lawns. A neighbor of ours cuts it twice weekly. Expect them to be out there with bonsai clippers doing a blade at a time.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Friday, May 1, 20 @ 9:18 am

  6. Call the police?

Mowing your neighborsโ€™ lawns is the will of the people and should be the law of the land.

  7. From this story I learned two things:
    1) there is a really decent person living in the 5600 block W patterson neighborhood
    2) there is a world-class *****le living in the 5600 block W patterson neighborhood

  8. I used to have neighbors who would take their snowblower and clean everyone’s walks after it snowed. Miss them!

  11. Happy International Workers’ Day, everybody.

Haven’t seen any round-up of whether groups of Illinois workers are participating in today’s general strike over working conditions or if that’s just a Twitter phenomenon.

  12. But, officer, he’s doing it wrong. I always cut 2.5″ he’s cutting 2″ That’s totally unacceptable. Please arrest him.

  14. One of the Twitter commenters has a point: “lets say his front yard is a perennial native plants wildflower garden carefully cultivated to be bee and butterfly friendly and now its nothing but bleeding green stubs and dead bees”

The lawn owner might also have someone who regularly mows his lawn, and he’d like to keep that person in work.

On the other hand, the mower might be a kid who ought to get off his lawn.

  16. There’s price gouging going on all over the place.
Did you ever stop to think that “grass” is not what you think it is?

  17. =Expect them to be out there with bonsai clippers doing a blade at a time.=

Years ago, I lived across the street from a guy who would cut his grass a minimum of twice weekly, usually three times, who would then follow up by getting down on his hands and knees with shears to finish the job

Comment by Joe Bidenopolous Friday, May 1, 20 @ 9:32 am

  18. It is one of those unwritten rules of manhood… you don’t mow another man’s grass….
    Seriously though, who cares?
“So thatโ€™s how Pat Quinn is keeping busy.”
Nope, Quinn is still out Quinning. This is how his neighbor keeps busy.

  27. My neighbor uses a lawn service. They cut weekly whether needed or not. Me I cut when needed or wanted maybe twice per month, some months. The lawn service uses my yard to turn around leaving elegant ellipses in my grass. Never thought to complain. Could be a new meme.

  29. It’s beautiful day out. I plan to cut the grass in a little while. Neighbor has a lawn service, so I don’t need to do theirs.

On the subject of snowblowing, my son lives down the street from me. He and his one neighbor between them do most of the elderly people’s driveways and sidewalks when it snows. Nobody gets mad at them.

Comment by RNUG Friday, May 1, 20 @ 10:22 am

  30. Is Pat Quinn still using that same 100-year old lawnmower he used in his 2014 campaign ad?

Comment by Leatherneck Friday, May 1, 20 @ 10:28 am

  31. Sad to the extreme but not surprised that Ravinia has just cancelled its 2020 season. I already had 10 CSO/classical lawn concerts paid for in advance. One of the reasons we chose to live where we do is proximity to Ravinia.

  32. lol i’d hate to be this person’s SO during quarantine.

  33. I would assume the neighbor had good intentions when mowing the neighbor’s lawn. That said, the polite thing to do would be to ask. I can see both sides, however calling the police seems extreme. Just go outside and let him know “thanks a lot, but I got this”.

    Comment by My 2 Cents Friday, May 1, 20 @ 10:41 am

  34. When I moved to town, the next door neighbor asked permission to mow the front of our yards all the way over to my driveway because he thought it looked good for them to be the same height. I told him that would be lovely but he should never ever feel he has to. He said the people before me had refused to let him do so. After a month or two I realized his wife really resented the fact that he was doing thia, which may explain the reluctance of the prior occupants of my house. Unlike them, I felt he should be able to do what makes him happy, so I generously allowed him to continue cutting that part of my yard for me.

Comment by Earnest Friday, May 1, 20 @ 11:04 am

  35. Why cut grass when you can just let the goats out. I wish Word was around to comment on that one.

Comment by Blue Dog Dem Friday, May 1, 20 @ 11:06 am

  36. I don’t want someone else cutting my lawn. If they did it in the spring, they’re likely to get stuck in the marsh/mud in a few spots. There’s parts of my yard that I usually can’t mow until June.

  37. Some people will do just about anything to avoid paying their grass taxes.

  38. WAND Decatur’s noon news just reported that an employee at the McDonald’s on West Jefferson tested positive for COVID-19. This is the McDonald’s that is across the street from Public Health’s building, and near Revenue. And the closest McD’s to the Capitol Complex.

The restaurant was briefly closed but has now reopened with precautions.

  39. Ahh. Portage Park, my old stomping grounds. Glad to know you haven’t changed in 40 years.

There were lawns we never went on, even to retrieve a wiffle ball. Actually, that’s an exaggeration. We always made the youngest brother do it. They were expendable.

  40. Got the grass mowed. Nobody stopped to help LOL
