Yep, my wife is a quilter and likes to sew. She has made them for everyone in the family and for a few friends.

Made a mask out of blue shop towels (heavy paper towels). Some tests rate them better than surgical mask; others not so much, but better than cotton hankerchiefs or old t-shirts. I also limit my time in crowded places like stores or restaurants anyway.

Do we even have enough masks for hospital workers yet? I found two N95 masks in the original 3M packaging and gave them to my daughter who just completed 96 hours over a two week period in the ER and ICU. Pray for her. She’s a hero.

Was at Rural King Saturday, wearing my mask.
There were a few customers not wearing any. All over the age of 60.

Found a local lady who is making them and got mine about two weeks ago. It’s made from soft denim. Ventured out to Rural King yesterday for some vegetation and was disappointed to see many were still not wearing one.

Made my masks with a pocket for a filter sheet. Cut up a fresh vacumn cleaner bag and used the filter liner in my masks. Filters seem to be washable but we discard them and reinsert new pieces into the bag every third time we use them. I use a triple layer of fabric. Hubby can only stand one layer of cloth so I sew his onto the fabric and tear it out after the third use.

I have a variety of options, which I use assiduously. An N95 my husband bought at Home Depot in late January for any commerce. A variety of homemade cloth masks for in the car, going to and from the parking lot at work. A variety of bandannas for bike riding. One key is to only wear one day, then wash (if washable) or rest in a paper bag for the N95.
By the way, out biking on a CCFP trail Friday, Saturday and Sunday, less than 5% of people were wearing any kind of face covering. And the trails were pretty full.

Because of my automotive hobby, I had a couple of open boxes of years old dust and N95 masks in the auto body tool chest in my garage. So I’m good … only difference is instead of tossing after each use is I now save and dry them for a week as recommended before reuse.
My daughter-in-law has sewn masks for themselves and the grandkids, and whoever she knows that needs one.
I’m also good on mechanic’s nitrile gloves, had open boxes of large and extra large. Keep a few sets of masks and gloves in every car; have given some away to people who needed them. I rarely use the gloves because sanitizer works better in most instances.
BTW: for the gas pumps, you don’t need gloves, a plain old plastic sack will do the job. Everybody should have lots of bags since we can’t use our reusable cloth ones at the grocery store. Use for the pump and properly dispose in trash.

I saw that…I thought I was a champion skipper for ten or fifteen skips…Boy, was I wrong…these dudes skip nearly one hundred times.

I saw the late John Prine on a PBS musical special about the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. He performed one number, but I could not help looking at how out of shape he appeared to be. In hindsight, he did seem to be susceptible to COVID-19 due to his health problems.

Was down at the local IGA this weekend, old fella in front of me in line at the register had no mask on while waiting to purchase the four cases of bud light in his cart. I figured maybe he was counting on all the alcohol killing any virus within a 10 foot radius of him

We went from relying on bandannas to suddenly having fashion choices as we got several masks from a friend in the clothing business who some made by a custom necktie designer/manufacturer. Talk about some colorful patterns . . . . Plus a long-forgotten mask order from Amazon suddenly showed up.

WE’re good. My wife’s mom sews so she has done about a dozen or so for us and family friends. Then I found a pair of N95s and some dust masks from painting the house a few years ago. And then, like Flapdoodle, a long forgotten order showed up with masks and gloves on Friday. I looked - I’d placed the order on March 12th. I’m with RNUG though - keep the sanitizer handy and no gloves necessary.

We had a few N95’s on hand due to ag related business that made them neccesary. In addition to that we have a large collection of fishing buffs that work well when doubled and used for quick in out trips among the public. Truthfully, we are still just sticking around home and avoiding the rest of the world as much as humanly possible. We have not changed our routine or precautions. Still operating like we did in the beginning of all of this. At least if either of us have to provide a contact/travel list should we ultimately test positive it will be a very short and small one.

==RNUG== Also have open boxes of old N95’s. Been rotating 3 of them, letting them air dry/sterilize 7 days between wearings. Having to repair the straps with extra long and wide rubber bands (BettyMILLS.COM). A little worried about hot weather. Moisture destroys their filter ability and no mask will be fun when its 95 out. Good idea on the plastic bags at gas pumps. Can’t remember the last time I went to the ATM for cash. No longer need it. I never thought I would say that !!!

I put one of my masks in the microwave as a failed “what not to do” experiment…yeah, I did the goofy… the wire nearly shorted my microwave.

I always though making masks would be a good side business for my dry cleaner. Even though she isn’t making any as far as I can tell, I passed another dry cleaner on a walk on Sunday and she is making them (no sign in the window, just a mask hanging there, walk in and she’s selling them for $8…huge deal). I’ve ordered a bunch from the internet and not a single one has arrived yet. All said 10 day delivery and we’re looking at 20 now. Biggest shocker to me was the Disney masks that won’t ship until 6/15 and that’s when it occurred to me…we’ll still be doing this all summer.
