Question of the day

Posted in:

* Oscar got his first haircut today since I don’t know when. The poor fella’s hair was matted, so off it went…

* The Question: Wellness check! How are you holding up?

  1. Among greatly improving my cooking skills, I’ve also learned that cutting my own hair is something I can do now too. I’ve also started taking some online classes and working to getting another degree.

I know these times are very difficult for many people, and I can sympathize with them.

Personally though, I’ve taken this situation as an opportunity to find ways to improve myself and am greatly enjoying doing so.

  2. Another week and I’ll have to mimic Oscar’s haircut…

Comment by Commonsense in Illinois Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 2:27 pm

  3. Working from home and having my groceries delivered. I home brew and have plenty of draft beer. My adult children are healthy and still working. All is going as well as it can be.

  4. ===have to mimic Oscar’s haircut===

I’m getting the Flowbie out soon.

  5. Holy cow, he looks like a completely different dog. Love it.

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one following the rules by staying at home. We still manage to get the kids outside everyday for fresh air and exercise. I always thought I’d be spending time like this binge-watching television, but we only have the TV for less than hour each day, except on weekend. Except for the folks who have lost their jobs during this mess, and there are a lot, I’ve been too busy to enjoy this as much as I would have preferred.

Also, I’ve heard from friends in Springfield that everyone’s yard looks great down there. I guess it’s all the employees “working from home” who are really working on their homes. Lol.

  6. I might be reading into things, but Oscar looks happy that he got a trim.

Holding up and very shaggy myself. Working may more hours now that we’re working from home — it seems there’s always a meeting for something, and the real work has to get done.

Mentally tired at the lack of downtime. Grocery shopping alone is an ordeal; we have to clean or quarantine everything as it comes into the house.
Add meals, kids, etc. and there’s even less downtime.

But… It could be much, much worse. At least I’m alive to complain about it all!

  7. I hardly recognized him [banned punctuation].

Not too bad, though I was watching a video of graduates of the West Glamorgan Youth Theatre Company reciting “Under Milkwood”, and started crying. I don’t know why that should have affected me so much, but it did.

  8. Doing OK. Have a Norelco hair trimmer that I’ve used successfully twice, and now have Korean baseball to watch. Chances of freaking out and going out unmasked waiving an AR-15 around = zero.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 2:32 pm

  9. Much better than Oscar…He looks like he was scalped…Yummy treats treat trauma?

Comment by Dotnonymous Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 2:33 pm

  10. Looking good Oscar! We’re working with very limited public contact and almost no court interaction. Personally, I am mentally tired from all of this. I have gone from clean shaven to sporting a full beard. Another attorney in our firm went from a full beard to clean shaven. That should confuse people!

  11. Called this morning to schedule my dog for grooming next Tuesday. Now, if they could only work on my hair too. . . it’s bad.

Comment by Lt Guv Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 2:35 pm

  12. Ummm, is Oscar Lori Lightfoot? Doesn’t he know there’s a pandemic going on? Has he not heard about social distancing?

Comment by Chicago Cynic Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 2:37 pm

  13. I have an electric beard trimmer that works just fine to maintain the buzz cut. The cat grooms herself.

Comment by Captain Who Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 2:37 pm

  14. Surviving but rainy days make the cabin fever worse.

Waiting to hear if a good friend has the virus. They’ve been working from home for weeks now and spouse is the only one who goes out, so no idea how they might have been exposed; won’t know for another day or so.

Comment by RNUG Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 2:39 pm

  15. Oscar looks thin (banned punctuation). Has he not been well? Have you been feeding him enough?

    Comment by Lynn S. Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 2:41 pm

  16. I cut my own hair. I’m not sure I wear it as well as Oscar, but it does feel a lot better.

    Comment by cermak_rd Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 2:43 pm

  17. I’m one of the lucky ones - no loss of income and can stay at home. I’m in a high risk group so I’m very careful - even have my groceries delivered. As long as I don’t look too far ahead, I’m fine. We just have such a long way to go - especially hard for those on the front lines or who have lost their jobs.
Oscar may need a sweater. It’s going to be near freezing for a couple of nights.

Comment by Rachel Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 2:47 pm

  18. Oscar got his summer buzzcut - envious.
BG gets to play 9 Thursday. Everyone in the home good.

  19. I second RNUG, the rain just really dampens the mood.
I’ve got both my girls at home which is nice. My eldest is home from University of Arizona. Oh big news there is she was awarded the Navy ROTC scholarship for next year. She was in the NROTC College Program ( basically volunteering without scholarship ) But she worked her butt off and won the recommendation of her commanding officer and got in. She’ll commission in 2023 as an Ensign and will serve 5 years. My youngster is “graduating” from High School and will be going to Colorado State to study horticulture.
So having them home is actually a joy.
OW, we’re going to watch A Few Good Men tonight so they can witness one of your favorite lines. I thought of you when I found the movie in the bargain bin.

  20. Aww, looking good Oscar. My pet is also such a tremendous joy.

Trying to be more fatalistic. Being consumed by fear and negativity is no way to live. Being cautious and thoughtful is a way to live and cope, to elevate ourselves beyond just us as individuals.

Comment by Grandson of Man Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 2:52 pm

  21. I used the beard trimmer on my husband’s hair several days ago. He likes it, but I’m not too sure yet. I’ve been finding little things to look forward to and that helps. Still I have ups and downs. Thankful for all the good things I have.

Comment by Dog Lover Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 2:54 pm

  22. I forgot to say that Oscar is still cute as a button even if it’s not the haircut of choice.

Comment by Dog Lover Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 2:55 pm

  23. I really need a haircut and it looks like I’m going to have to go to Indiana or maybe downstate to get one. Not sure that’s entirely healthy either but the rules are the rules…

  26. === How are you holding up?===

As well as others, maybe better than others too.

I’m doing my best to think of others and those in the medical arena that I need to not make this more difficult.

Zoom calls, FaceTime, texts… it’s been a real joy… hearing from others… and also reaching out to others, friends, family… letting them know I’m thinking of them too.

Oscar… he’s a good boy. How can you not smile looking at Oscar. It’s a nice touchstone, seeing him. Thanks.

    Be well, stay safe.

  27. Cut my hair Oscar style today for summer. Might have jumped the gun a bit.

    Anybody heard from Honeybear lately?

Comment by Jibba Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 3:11 pm

  28. Looking good, Oscar! I bought myself some buzz clippers at the farm store, and after my second haircut, I think I have the hang of it. Meanwhile, I have gone from clean shaven to a full beard. Another lawyer in our firm went the other direction. That should confuse people when court reopens.

Comment by The Ford Lawyer Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 3:17 pm

  29. Having strange dreams. Last night, I dreamed that I went back to work, and my work area had been moved to a small table and all my files had been thrown out. As I was waking, I realized that I wasn’t entirely sad about that and was thinking to myself, “Great! Now I don’t have to clean my files out.” Otherwise, I’m as fine as one can be in a pandemic.

Comment by Morningstar Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 3:24 pm

  30. My wife cut my hair Sunday. It looks great for a first try. The beard is coming in nicely, minus the white hairs.

Comment by Asst. Mgr. Strickland Propane Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 3:45 pm

  31. I cut my own hair, easy when you use the trimmers and no guard. I look like Oscar all year.

Working still. Had a week off at home, did OSHA training online and household chores. Noticing that wherever I go everything has a surreal feel. Trying to eat take out from mom and pop establishments as much as possible.

Good news is a lot of medical construction is continuing. My field has stayed level in demand since this started. I am fortunate.

Comment by FormerParatrooper Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 3:52 pm

  32. Jibba, you’re braver than me. I usually have my husband trim my hair with our Wahl in-home trimmer kit, because I’ve tried to do it myself in the past. That never ended well, because my hands aren’t as steady as his, which is also why my phone has a bunch of scratches on the back. Aside from that, I’m doing OK, and I think Oscar’s adorable.

Comment by Tynie Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 4:06 pm

  33. Congrats Honey Bear on daughter’s ROTC College Program….my oldest granddaughter got same. WHooop…

Comment by Sayitaintso Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 4:12 pm

  34. I’m trying to decide whether it’s worth the risk to try trimming the dog’s hair myself - despite my lack of equipment or skill - or if I should risk the virus by taking it to a groomer.

Either way, the dog would probably appreciate not having hair over its eyes. I’m not sure it would enjoy the haircut, though.

Comment by Keyrock Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 4:26 pm

  35. Fraying around the edges but moving forward.
HB. Does it seem strange to have NROTC in a place with no water? My oldest daughter went to Colorado State. We will never get her back to the flatlands.

  36. A-w-w-w-w-w. Cute(exclamation point)
    My husband ordered trimmers.
    I think I’m the barber.
    Any advice?

  37. I shaved today. First time in about two weeks.

Comment by Nick Name Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 5:15 pm

  38. The sun came up. I’ve been drinking rye with a few friends for a while now — socially distanced, of course — and I think it’s going down now. I suspect it will come up again tomorrow. So I think things are alright. It’s up to us, so I think things are all right. Hoorah.

Comment by Flapdoodle Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 6:03 pm

  39. == I shaved today. First time in about two weeks. ==

I shave about once a week so a mask will fit snug when I go to the grocery store.
