* Charts…
It's Mother's Day so I'm only doing these four charts
- 12.1% positive test rate statewide.
- A low-ish number of test results reported to @IDPH.
BUT
- Lowest number of positive tests since April 21.
- Low number of daily deaths.One day doesn't mean much, but let's have hope. pic.twitter.com/0j74w9hqDk

Missed Friday that virus now in 98 counties. The 4 counties, 2 are small Illinois River counties (Putnam and Scott), 2 are “The Republic of Halbrook” (Edgar and Edwards).

Public confidence will determine when the economy will make a comeback regardless of the Open demands, and the more people who disregard public health directives, the longer it will take for public confidence to return.

That positivity rate feels like the most important state to watch as we go through May.
If they start releasing it by County - I think that will make the case to reopen easier or harder depending on the county.

Sunday numbers down again because reports aren’t filed. Still missing at least 5 Sangamon county deaths from late in the week. We cannot get to a consistent decline with inconsistent filing of reports.

Hannah Meisel correctly uses the phrase “One day doesn’t mean much,” since we see a lot of statistical variation. Groups like Johns Hopkins use a 5-day moving average in their charts to compensate for the known fluctuations. One could even make the case for a 7-day moving average due to the noticeable correlation between the fluctuations and the day of the week. Either way it will remain hard for the media and public to use the IDPH data without some amount of smoothing to guide the eye.

I’ve been following the daily numbers for a while looking for a peak and a drop. It’s been harding seeing days at over 1K or lately 2K. Amazing to see a day’s difference this weekend, however, to know for sure (probably better to say to say analyze accordingly) we have to keep seeing the daily numbers. I’ve only been looking at daily new cases or rarely daily stats on deaths from coronavirus. I know testing is up so that’s getting these daily new cases up.
Regardless hope is what we need right now.

McLean County is now up to 121 cases as of today. Sadly, at least 7 of these are ISU students in their 20’s who have been at gatherings at a private residence. The health department has been contacting others who were present to self-quarentine for 14 days. Probably will see more of this age group test positive. Grrr.
