* JCAR member Rep. Tom Demmer is saying on Facebook that the Pritzker administration has agreed to withdraw its controversial IDPH rule imposing a Class A misdemeanor on businesses that defy the stay at home order. The department confirmed that to JCAR just now.
I’m told that legislation may be filed that could be even tougher than Pritzker’s rule, however.

Finally, some common sense on the withdrawal.
We’ll have to see what the new bill is like, but it better not go too far. I already see that JB is losing his EO audience downstate.

This should be repealed for so many reasons. Pritzker hurt himself here and did not need to press this issue.

“Tougher” yeah sure. Will the Dems/Gov escalate it up from a Class A Misdemeanor? Not likely, perhaps a “tough” strategic retreat from his overreach.

Can someone help me out with what the order even did that wasn’t already on the books? The Governor has said that ignoring the EO was already illegal. What did the rule give him? That’s not snark, I literally don’t know what would have changed.

Democracy still works in some corners of state government. Right now the shutdown’s impact rests on the governor not the Democratic Party in general. If Pritzker wants to follow the likes of George Wallace and deny 12 million citizens their civil rights he’s free to do so but it’s not a good look for the rest of his party with its long history of Jim Crow.

This is the first of some badly needed rebukes to JB. If he goes with legislation he’ll get more bad news, especially if he attempts to go bigger with tougher enforcement.

A majority of these citizens support stay at home orders and proceeding cautiously toward reopening. It’s lost on the “reopen” crowd.

JB is showing restraint only for a moment - he said pass Cunnigham’s bill (which will have the restrictions) or I will reinstate the IDPH rule.

Talked with a GOP person last night who was looking forward to the GOP picking up a bunch of seats if they had gone ahead with it. Although he was against the rule, he thought it would work out very well for them come election time.
