To the staffers who are working in Springfield to ensure the legislature can meet–THANK YOU! For showing up now & the long hours you always put in.

As an Illinoisan and a staffer with an underlying condition who can't do in person work rn, I'm so grateful.#twill

  1. Agreed! Thank you very much, staffers, for keeping the wheels turning. Same goes for other unsung daily heroes who similarly work behind the scenes, both inside and outside government.

  2. Yep. Former staffer here. They are what makes this all possible. Thanks to all of you and stay as safe as you can. Thank you for your service.

  3. Thank you to all who are working in this crisis to do our business in Springfield and elsewhere. Thank you to the many who are looking out for one another and respecting the sick and deceased by social distancing and wearing face coverings. The face covering is not just PPE but a symbol of strength, compassion, respect, etc.

  4. thank you for all you do in moving Illinois forward.

  5. Thank you to all Staff and Crew who labor hours and hours, at times, for something that is mere minutes in a committee meeting, floor debate, or the simple functions of governing.

If you are a member of the General Assembly and voted twice against the rules of wearing a mask, please do not think you can thank them for all they are doing, you voted to put them all at risk, including your colleagues.

    Especially those who took it upon themselves who voted FOR masks, in the House, then voted AGAINST expelling a member for not adhering to the rule;

Please stop pretending that the health, safety, and well-being of Staff, Crew, and colleagues matter.

Your voting against expelling a member who is purposely going against a rule you voted for… it’s truly a cowardly act and shows disrespect to all those that this tweet is honoring.

It’s is truly worse, without question, if you voted for the rule then voted against expulsion… then those voting against both issues. By splitting, you are choosing the phony image of caring, but then choosing politics when it matter. Those voting against both are simply refusing to be both courteous and respectful, and no surprises were found.

Thank you, Ms. Litcherman, for tweeting what many, like me, are also thankful for, and pointing out the need to thank.

If anyone is confused who are choosing politics, grandstanding, and cowardly stances over the health of Staff, Crew, and Members… the roll calls can set you straight.

    It’s a mask.

    Wear it.

    Think of others.

  6. So much love and thanks and appreciation going out to staff. You work tirelessly behind the scenes - so much work and very little glory. To make possible this session in the midst of a pandemic, and to have it go so smoothly (though I’ll bet it didn’t happen as easily as it appears to outside eyes) is a credit to all you do.

Thanks to you, thanks to the legislators and others who are following the rules to keep others safe, and phooey on those who don’t.

  7. Thank you staff working behind the scenes making this all possible.

  8. Thank you to each and every good person who is working to get things done while wearing a mask. The makers are getting things done, the takers keep on taking. Decent, ethical people have stepped up and in some cases given their lives to keep things functioning. Thank you (multiple banned punction)

  9. I bristle with anger at the thought of one of our elected officials intentionally exposing the staff who have worked very hard in less than ideal conditions to make this session as safe as possible.

There are already too many public servants who have succumbed to COVID-19 infections that they were exposed to at work and some of those have given their lives. At a time when simply being at work is a risk factor for hospitalization and death for no other reason than simply being near another human being I think there is more that we can be doing to recognizing the contributions of the people that make our governments happen — the folks that facilitate session and the work of our executive branches are risking a lot by virtue of being public servants.

And sacrifices have already been paid.

Though this week might not be the time for it, I hope that some more officious recognition is something our elected officials will be taking time to consider.

  10. To all the legislators, staffers, and others who made the session possible by their hard work and dedication while in the midst of C-19: Thank You.
    And to Rep. Bailey….(crickets)

  11. The General Assembly Staffers, Gov’s Staff, OMB, Agency Budget and Legislative Staff are all at hero status. And a lot of them are running on empty right now.

  12. Ditto! The staff are the backbone of the work that is happening! Thank you to all of you!!!!

Comment by LBR Thursday, May 21, 20 @ 10:22 am

  13. Staffers are the heroes. People like Bailey are the worst for putting them in danger. I thought I had some rough times on staff, and comparatively to what had happened before and after, we did. But nothing akin to this. Good job folks, keep your chins up(banned punctuation)

  20. These will soon be made moot by the official 2020 numbers, but the Census estimates more population declines for counties in in IL and NE IL in particular.
