* Press release

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 1,111 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 160 additional deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 114,306 cases, including 5,083 deaths, in 100 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 17,179 specimens for a total of 803,973. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity from May 20-26 is 8.6%.

*All data are provisional and will change. In order to rapidly report COVID-19 information to the public, data are being reported in real-time. Information is constantly being entered into an electronic system and the number of cases and deaths can change as additional information is gathered.

I’ll post hospitalization numbers when I get them.

…Adding… The governor said that, as of midnight last night, 3,826 are in the hospital with COVID-19, of those 1,031 are in the ICU and 592 are on a ventilator.

  1. Not great but there was obviously a massive backlog from the 3-day weekend. Interesting to see McLean County record 3 deaths.

  2. It’s now the second day in a row the state has been below 20,000 in tests. I wonder if that’s just the slow start to the week after the holiday or something else. A couple weeks back the Washington Post had an article on a decreasing demand for tests, and in IL there was that kerfuffle about the Bloomington drive thru site and now the new Champaign site is only doing 150 tests/day when there’s a capacity for 750.
    https://www.news-gazette.com/coronavirus/coronavirus-response-lines-for-drive-thru-testing-site-nearly-nonexistent/article_ab1394d9-838b-574f-84d6-f0ff145676b7.html
    I’m curious about the supply vs. demand situation in IL. What’s our daily capacity? I also wonder if it wouldn’t be better to have more mobile testing options. For example, instead of having the site set up in Champaign, there would be a daily pop-up site with say 250 tests in small towns all around the Champaign area, every day going to a different town.

  3. -MyTwoCents…..I think your idea of mobile Covid Tests from town to town…. is an excellent idea. Hope the Governor looks at that.
