I haven’t been able to get this song out of my head all week…
I was a big Thin Lizzy fan when I was 15 or so, and went to see them open for Styx in concert around the same time. Yeah, that dates me, I know. Still, I can’t for the life of me figure out why this song keeps dancing in my brain. It’s not even my favorite Thin Lizzy tune.
Anyway, somebody told me once that if you share a song that’s been playing in your head you can get rid of it. Consider it shared.
Question: Have any songs been pestering your mind lately? Share.

I’ve been smitten with Let’s Boogie by Earth, Wind, & Fire lately.

I, too, am a big Thin Lizzy Fan and I introduced them to my eldest daughter with “Jailbreak.” Trying getting that riff out of your head.
Unfortunately, someone infecting me with “Matchmaker Matchmaker” from Fiddler on the Roof on Monday and it is still haunting my waking (and non-waking) moments.

I must’ve played “Live and Dangerous” a million times, but it’s the studio version of the song that’s bugging my brain. Weird.

Thin Lizzy is one of the best and was referenced last spring in the excellent movie ‘Once.’ I read the name for this music phenomena a few years ago: earworm. And, for a week ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ has been earworming constantly…alas, not the traditional version but this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lNFRLrP014
If the Leningrad Cowboys can team up with the Red Army Chorus to cover a Lynyrd Skynyrd song about the South, isn’t there hope that the Four Tops and Elvis can finally get along?

The Norah Jones performance on Austin City Limits a few weeks ago. I’ve always liked Norah, but the growl in her voice, plus the amazing performance by J Walter Hawkes… Follow the link and click on “watch the video”

VM - We have the same problem only my daughter is addicted to the High School Musical soundtrack (pick any of the songs - they stick in my head until I need either a frontal lobotomy or a bottle in front of me). The HSM disc would have flown out the car window weeks ago if there wouldn’t be hell to pay if it did.

Tom Waits version of Waltzing Matilda.
Some Springfield based wag posted the Clancy Brothers version and I went searching and found this one. Different lyrics, same kinda feel.

“anyday”
an old derek & the dominos song that the allman brothers did during their last beacon run (woohoo! tickets will be available soon for the next one!) and that clapton resurrected in his recent tour with derek trucks (also of the allman brothers and the derek trucks band)…

Ian Gillan Band, Thin Lizzy, Nazareth. Aragon Ballroom. $5 cover. It’s amazing what $5 would buy on Lawrence Avenue back in the day:-)
Gave me the earworm, so I’ll pass it on.
Running Back (P. Lynott)
I’m a fool now that it’s over
Can you guess my name?
I make my money singing songs about you
Its my claim to fame
When they say it’s over
It’s not all over, there’s still the pain
I’d come running
I’d come running back to you again
Oh I’d come running
I’d come running back to you again
If I said I was sorry
Would you still leave me?
I never thought you’d go till you did
Believe me
When they say it’s over
It’s not all over completely
Cause I’d come running
I’d come running back to you again
Yes I’d come running
I’d come running back to you again
I miss that girl
The show is over
And we must all go home
Just leave me by myself
I’ll be alright here on my own
If it’s all over, it’s all over
And I’m all alone
And I’d come running
I’d come running back to you again
Don’t you know I’d come running
I’d come running back to you again

Black Sabbath - Iron Man
I am Iron Man!
Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all,
Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
We’ll just pass him there
Why should we even care?
He was turned to steel
In the great magnetic field
Where he traveled time
For the future of mankind
Nobody wants him
He just stares at the world
Planning his vengeance
That he will soon unfold
Now the time is here
For Iron Man to spread fear
Vengeance from the grave
Kills the people he once saved
Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge
Heavy boots of lead
Fills his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
Iron Man lives again!

The Thin Lizzy cover of Whiskey in a Jar is awesome. The song that has been sticking in my head (especially the intro and the solo at the end) is Hotel California, because I’m reading the new Don Felder book trashing Henley and (to a lesser extent) Frey.

Somehow, Avril Lavigne’s song about not liking a girlfriend got stuck in my head. I am way too old to know any of these pop songs.
Hey Hey You You I don’t like your girlfriend
Hey something something, think you need a new one.
If I could open my office window, I’d think about jumping to get rid of that earworm.
Vanilla Man wins with the Barbie stuff, with Barry Manilow a close second IMO.

The Norah Jones song includes these lyrics. (Why do I hear them whenever I read the Capitol Fax Blog?)
In a boat that’s built of sticks and hay,
We drifted from the shore,
With a captain who’s too proud to say,
That he dropped the oar,
Now a tiny hole has sprung a leak,
In this cheap pontoon,
Now the hull has started growing weak,
And we’re gonna be sinkin’ soon.
We’re gonna be
Sinkin’ soon,
We’re gonna be
Sinkin’ soon,
Everybody hold your breath ’cause,
We’re gonna be sinkin’ soon.

This is a wild thread.
I had “The Wild Rover” as performed by the Pogues stuck in my head.
Watched for it on Youtube. Also listened to the Clancy Bros. version of “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda” (is that the song you thought of, irishpirate?). Great, sad song.
