* Comcast supplies my internet. This national outage map is from DownDetector…
* AT&T is my phone provider. I use it as a backup wifi hotspot during Comcast outages. Also from DownDetector…
Luckily for me, I can piggy-back on a Verizon account. But my site went down for a bit and, man, if this isn’t the most typical 2020 thing to happen I don’t know what is.
…Adding… Comcast and AT&T are both working again for me. Whew. That was so weird.

The fact that the AT&T and Comcast maps (very nearly) match up is frightening.
The more recent maps are even more exact.
Something is happening.

I’m on a quick break between Zoom meetings. People dropped out of the Zoom meeting. One called in and said her internet dropped. I have a Verizon MiFi that has kept going, but really bogged down.
2020 so far is a dumpster fire.

Haven’t had a problem personally, thank goodness. Might be a good time for a walk or bike ride if you do though!

We have lost our Comcast connection, backup AT&T connection and finally our Verizon emergency backup. Now connected by our last resort T-Mobile account. This is one of the largest outage in recent memory.

Fiber internet ftw. Although an earlier happy hour courtesy of internet outages wouldn’t be that bad.

I’m on Boost Mobile, and it’s hit-and-miss. As in, every time I load a webpage, no matter what it’s for, I get a “failure to connect” error and have to refresh. Even then, it takes several attempts to get through to any site.

2 of my stores in Decatur area that utilize Comcast were down, but not my store then runs on AT&T. When we called Comcast before news of the large outage happened, Comcast recording kept saying “an agent will not be able to help you.” Very on-trend for 2020.

I live in central Illinois, Bloomington. I had my wifi and cell phone lose service simultaneously at 1351. i have two back up phones just in case, and they always work. they too, lost service. so at exactly the same time, i lost three phones and my wifi. (comcast for wifi, tmobile for the phones. i have never even seen this before.

Newer, better, faster, NOT. How many system engineers were hiding under their desks when the waves of “work at home” hit.? While the”systems” perform even surface mounted components get hot enough to cook on when overtasked…

Xfinity tv internet etc down. Xfinity app didn’t work, 800 number was someone typing it sounded like. I went to 4G on Verizon phone to get to internet. Had to disable phone Wi-Fi first.

Lost all COMCAST service right at 1:00PM. Internet came back over an hour ago. Some TV channels are back, but not all of them. Now, that’s weird.

Don’t get me started on Comcast. No problem today, but yesterday, my computer screen suddenly went all black. I rebooted and it looked OK., except I couldn’t connect.
My Comcast TV service has been wild. It keeps changing the channel on me. I’ll be watching something interesting and all of a sudden 3 little dots appear and the channel changes to the Home Shopping Network or a movie or something.

Camcast automated voice told me that my service is expected to be restored by 8:55 p.m. I am using my Frontier internet service now to keep connected. Yeah I have service from two different providers. I pay a little more than I should but so far it has been pokey Frontier that has been the most reliable since the stay home order was given.

You all are talking, for the most part, about last-mile providers. (ie consumer and business end-points)
The nation is connected by long-haul internet backbones, some by companies you have not heard of but may be descendants of companies that you remember. (Sprint, Level3, Windstream, AT&T, Concentric, XO, Verizon, etc.)
A lot of fiber traffic runs along railroad right-of-ways, some owned at one time by Southern-Pacific Railroad, which is where the SPR in Sprint comes from.
Somewhere there was a glitch in one of these backbones.

Comcast…
https://hoiabc.com/2020/06/03/comcast-users-facing-internet-outages-throughout-area/
“Update 6:27pm: Comcast public relations says a truck accident lead to their problems today.
“A truck travelling in an easement closed to vehicles struck our network and did significant damage,” a spokesperson said.
We’ve asked where this truck accident happened and how many customers were affected. We’ll update again if we hear back.”
If I were Comcast, I would try to not disclose exactly where this node was. When AT&T was still king of the landline hill, certain long-distance telephone switches were considered important to national security and hid in plain sight.

I have only Limited Basic but have an X1 box on my living room TV.
Around 5:30 in Chatham (southwest of Springfield), the Local network stations (e.g., WICS, WCIA, WAND) and all their associated subchannels were not working on my X1 box. Both SD and HD feed channels. However, traditional cable channels on my lineup (e.g., public access, shopping, religious) were still working like normal.
I didn’t try the non-X1 box in my bedroom TV to see if there were problems with channels there.
But by 6, the channels seemed to be working OK.
Seemed weird why local stations would be having problems but regular cable channels were not.
