* I forgot to get to this Jon Seidel story yesterday…
New criminal charges related to the bribery case against former state Rep. Luis Arroyo are expected “in the near future,” lawyers told a federal judge Tuesday.
That brief disclosure appeared in a one-page status report filed jointly by prosecutors and Arroyo’s defense attorney. Chicago’s federal court is trying to get back to business after months of delays during the coronavirus pandemic, and U.S. District Judge Steven Seeger asked for the report earlier this month.
The report offers no hint at who might be charged — or what accusations might be made. But the lawyers told the judge they hoped for a status hearing around August 10.
“The parties anticipate that additional, related charges will be brought in the near future and request a status hearing on or after August 10, 2020, with defendant’s presence waived,” it said.

This far into the game, the new charges are either a sign of a plea deal with Arroyo to specific offenses or an indication that other players are about to get zapped, and Arroyo is cooperating.
Technically, both of those options predict that he is cooperating.

I read it to mean more charges, but not against Arroyo. Uncomfortable time to be Arroyo-adjacent.

OK there are 3 different theories. Maybe the prosecutors were worried the judge would toss the case with a promise of more? It does give media a chance to recycle the old stuff and charge the customers.

I wish I could be there when Arroyo is sentenced, and then remind him of all the disgusting meetings I had with him where he kept asking me to hire his friends and relatives. There is also the time I had to take him to dinner and he ordered 2 meals, one to eat then and another to take home. Happy to see him finally get his, same with Sandoval who wasn’t much better.

Looks like the feds jackpot is increasing. Luis needs to preach a sermon of redemption.

Louie Arroyo was routinely thought of as one of the least intelligent Legislator’s in the building.
His annual attempt at articulating the minimal General Services budget that was thrown his way was a combination comedy/tragedy.
The ordering two meals, one to go, goes way, way beyond just Louie the Confused. Certain members are legendary in relation to that audacity.

What makes IRN think they can tie this to Madigan?

Luis did his job and voted as he was instructed. It was his ambition that got him into trouble.
