This is going to sound worse than it’s intended, but I’ve been cooped up with my kids since March. For Father’s Day, I just don’t want to be anywhere near them for a few hours. I told my wife that I’d pay for the gas and lunch if she’d drive them down to Marion and back on Sunday. Lol.

My parents are in a nursing home. We hope to see them in person in July. Chances are good that we’ll be allowed inside. I sent a gift and a card. Will call.

If my boys just remember to call, it will be a win.

Firing up the grill and cooking some steaks for my wife, brother, and 93 year old father, who still lives at home and loves steak!

Don’t judge your children by what they do on any given holiday. Judge them by what they do on the ordinary days.
On Sunday I’ll do some gardening (Dad’s favorite hobby) and toast his memory.

BDB, you reminded me of the long, hot days at church camp on Crab Orchard Lake. Long time since that has come to mind.

My son turns 18 on Friday so I fully anticipate celebrating his lottery winnings throughout the weekend.

Recalling fond memories, being thankful for all the love and wisdom Dad shared, and toasting him with a bit of his favorite elixir

Parents live out of state, so a phone call (and annual WaPo renewal) will have to do this year. Hoping the Midwest region remains low enough that I can visit them this summer…

Thinking of how many will become fathers (or add) on account of a long quarantine.
I’ll think of mine. Will revel in being one.

Mowing the lawn with new Toro - gift from my wife. Her gifts are usually on the practical side and none too subtle.

We usually have a big family reunion picnic every Father’s Day with my dads side. But that got canceled because. My dad is now in assistant living so I can’t go see him so just another phone call. But we are getting together to bbq my kids and grandkids which will be great as, unlike 47th,
I have not been cooped up with them so they are still tolerable. lol.
I’m also going to toast Bob and Larry and think of their families.

The dad of the house is getting tested for COVID tomorrow for the third time (workplace cases having jumped from 4 to 24 in short order) so we’re hanging around the house as has become custom for the past 3 months. Gardening and grilling, putting together a solar fountain for the hummingbirds, and infusing a good vodka with herbs (tasty with tonic and lemon) are on the agenda.
Speaking of birds, one of the best things we’ve ever done in the yard is install a birdbath. Especially this time of year, with the heat and the fledglings, we get visits to it almost nonstop. Behaviorally it’s interesting and often just quite cute.
Speaking of which,

Morning bike ride with my 10-month old in the trailer. Then a socially distance backyard gathering with my dad and siblings. Home in time for beer.

We’ll be doing a cookout. But I want to do for them. I don’t really need a thing. Their lives are in front of them. I love them and appreciate the efforts, but I’m good.

Whatever the “Mistress of the Wide Blue Horizons” tells me to do. She makes the plans, and I say “yes dear”.
In reality, probably looking for final apparel items for oldest daughter wedding at end of month.

Golf in the AM, barbeque ribs in the afternoon. Both father and father-in-law have passed. No baseball, No U.S. Open. Keep the rain off.
