* Still crazy bad…
The U.S. Department of Labor estimates 45,249 new unemployment claims were filed during the week of June 22 in Illinois, according to the DOL’s weekly claims report released Thursday.
While this number is based on advanced estimates, the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) will be releasing a final number later Thursday.
There were 1,427,000 new claims filed across the U.S. last week.

Yet 5 million jobs were created in June, more than doubling the 2.3 million forecasted by ADP.
Still 10 million more Jobs needed to get back to where we were in February

I haven’t been able to certify since May and the phones are constantly busy.
Its understandable, I’m not blaming anyone, other people have it worse, but it still is frustrating

Lucky Pierre, I’m not going to say the numbers don’t tell the full story but… the numbers don’t tell the full story.
For instance the june data will generally be behind where we are ‘right now’ given that it’s usually taken in either the first or second week, so won’t reflect new data like last week’s unemployment filings, or the recent surge in cases.
The other thing is they’re also still making the mistake of classifying some people as employed who are furloughed, which makes the unemployment rate look artificially lower.
Still, it’s not a bad thing usually when people get their job back, and unemployment declines more than anticipated. But it would be a mistake to trumpet it too much, given all the uncertainty and some states re-implementing restrictions.

You’re going to lose your rainbows and roses argument right now. No amount of spin you do is going to make anyone feel better right now. But I guess that’s all you are capable of doing - spin - so it’s not surprising.

Actually that was a roses and thorns post. Did you miss the part about how many more people need to get hired for the economy to recover?. How on earth are are BLS numbers spin?
Good economic news about higher than expected job creation is only partisan for those who feel a bad economy and continued suffering somehow benefits Democrats.
Why someone thinks a bad economy benefits any political leader makes no sense to me at all

The June jobs numbers are simply glorious and I revel in them. Happy for all who got new jobs during the month.

===are simply glorious and I revel in them===
Tell that to the 1.4 million people who lost their jobs last week.

Per the Hill’s article on it (I’m not sure I can post it)
“The number of U.S. workers who permanently lost their jobs climbed in June by 588,000 to a total of 2.8 million. The number of workers who’ve been jobless for at least 15 weeks also rose by 825,000, and those who have been unemployed for more than 27 weeks rose by 227,00.”
So while many jobs returned in the South and West as places reopened, there have been more permanent job losses as well. With the backpedaling in many of those places, we’ll see what next month looks like.

Me neither. Which is why I don’t buy into the conspiracy theories that the Democrats are somehow trying to sabotage the economy.

Unfortunately with the freezes in reopenings and the liklihood that some states will start to go backwards and shut things down again, I suspect these numbers are going to start getting worse again.

@Nick,
Contact your State Rep or State Senator’s office. They will be able to get IDES to call you and resolve your issue.
If you need to find out who your elected rep is, https://openstates.org/find_your_legislator/
Once you get their name, you can get their District Office info off of ILGA.Gov
