12 Marlins players and four coaches tested positive in the last two days. How long can baseball last? I’m hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

Baseball is fragile.
Sports are fragile right now.
The Bears can’t think about fans, even limited games (8) is too many chances for spread.

My guess is that once teams start traveling after the first weekend then things will really start going downhill. Enjoy these few games while you can!

good baseball this weekend on the north side. great pitching. if chat wood can pitch like that the rest off the season, we are in good shape. darvish will be fine. his number from the second half of last season were just sick. the real question is how will lester perform. it was fun getting to watch this weekend, and i look forward to more.

Let’s get real people it’s called the price of getting back to normal. Just last Friday are expert on Covid 19 the honorable Self proclaimed Dr. Mayor Keith Pekau of Orland Park said so in his weekly Email. He pointed out that OP can anticipate a growing number of Covid Cases approximately 10-20 a week and that number is a positive sign. That’s why he’s pushing ahead for taste of Orland but limited to only 2,500 at a time. And Masks well that’s up to you and if you don’t like to be around people who don’t wear them, stay home.
So according to his opinion let’s just put this hoax behind us and open up everything.

Eloy has limitations in the outfield, true. But then the Sox don’t have many really good defensive players. Their plan is to score a lot of runs and hope for the best. Averaged 6 runs a game in the series with the Twins, but only won one game.

The first district to realize that will be the next on my “watch” list.

Not just schools, but what about State Offices and Employees that have been back at work (no remote) for a while? Secretary of State especially. SOS’s Chicago office for Business Services now is closed until Aug. 6 after an employee tested positive for COVID-19:

Just wondering,
But that’s going to happen if your community has cases in it. The trick is to catch it when that first person at work has it and thus prevent it’s spread in the office.
My work is on Chicago’s north side. So far we’ve had about 50 cases (we are essential and continued production through the shutdown so that is over quite a long time). In no case have those cases resulted in a chain reaction through the company due to the screening (temp check before work), requirement for face masking (masks at all times at work face shield if masks can’t be used), and physical distancing.
I’m just dubious that the mechanisms that make a corporate environment not become a chain infection site are possible in a school. Especially when the ODD kids discover they can get a rise out of everyone by yanking their and other kids masks down. Also parents dosing their kids with Tylenol to get fevers down so they can go to school is another issue that will come up. As well as what to do with students that fail the health screens.

Are you manufacturing? You must have been considered essential. The Slaughterhouses have been open and are a big problem because of nature of industry and their owners.
I agree with you schools will be more like that than your situation.

MLB continuing the season now seems reckless. Their protocols don’t work when society as a whole is failing to do the things necessary to contain the disease.
I want to watch these young sox players play for years, and not have a career shortened due to organ damage from Covid-19. We seemingly got lucky with Moncada, how many more times you want to roll the dice?

If some more test vaccines are available in Illinois, any chance that not just medical and public safety personnel, but also State/Local public employees and teachers, can be among those that get in front of the line for the vaccine? As part of State Employee/Retiree flu shots every year (as long as you have State Employee health insurance with Health Alliance, Blue Cross, etc.).

Eagerly awaiting the weekend round up of IDPH Covid-19 numbers.
My local TV station reported that only one Covid-19 death reported Sunday, so that’s really wonderful news (banned punctuation).
But…
(There’s always a but…)
Positivity rate about 3.4% (super sad), and something like 1600 cases.
And before some troll or bot says “but Indiana (banned punctuation)”, Indiana’s positivity rate is about 9 or 10%, and they had something like 9xx cases. So on a rate per thousand basis, they’re worse off than we are.
Now if we could just get the RO to something like 1 in a million, and the death rate to zero 363/365 days…

If the IHSA does not go forward with fall sports in the fall some people are going to lose their minds.
If they do go forward I will be shocked we get a full football season in.

OneMan, are you aware IESA has already cancelled fall sports? The long article I saw also said winter and spring sports may not happen.
Tuscola just cancelled all summer sports camps and practices, apparently because some of the football players worked at a local business where someone tested positive. So far, no more positives, but a lot of folks quarantined for 2 weeks.

It’s a good idea to ask for vaccine volunteers among the front line and essential folks, but keep in mind that only half get the real vaccine. The other half is the control group that gets something else. These trials will not really help schools open.

Any reason Congressperson Lauren Underwood has not offered any acknowledgment or support for Black Lives Matter movement. Check out her Facebook and public addresses and its crickets. Very disappointing because everyone in public life should lend a voice to this very important movemnt.

Based on what is happening in baseball today, I am thinking we are going to postpone and it is going to end up in court.

When you say “stakes are different”, are you referring to the small minority who get a collegiate athletic scholarship?
Because college athletics are under strain, and some colleges already starting to cut atletic budgets and programs.
“End up in court”? Thomas DeVore has already tried that, and gotten smacked back. Judge did not find in his favor.
I won’t dispute that physical activity is good for all, and that athletics are sometimes the only thing motivating some kids to show up and do decently at school.
But I’m not convinced we’ll have sports at any level for another year or two, and the only judge who might try to force schools to offer them is in Clay County, writing about his “constitutional right to go fishing.”
How many high schools are physically situated in Clay County? No matter the sport, season will be very short…

Maybe. But they’re still kids. A handful of them getting scholarships to play a sport at the next level doesn’t constitute high enough stakes for me. The responsible thing to do will be to shut it down. I expect the NCAA will make that call eventually and once they do it would be all but impossible for the IHSA not to follow suit.

The Division III NCAA Midwest Conference, whose Illinois schools include Monmouth, Knox, Lake Forest and Illinois College, voted unanimously to suspend all athletics through Dec. 31.
