As more Democrats call for Madigan’s resignation, DPI updates website with new “branding”

Posted in:

* I appreciate the effort, but, um…

The Democratic Party of Illinois (DPI) today unveiled an updated website and branding as a part of a larger effort to make the state Democratic party more accessible to voters on digital platforms – a key step in getting out the vote during the most consequential election in a lifetime and in a heavily virtual world due to the COVID-19 public health crisis.

“As a part of our work to make Illinois Democrats more accessible to voters, we’ve updated our website to help Illinois residents better understand our issue platforms, get to know our elected officials and candidates, and easily get involved in our efforts to elect Democrats up and down the ballot,” Michael J. Madigan, Chairman of the Democratic Party of Illinois, said.

DPI’s versatile website will be updated regularly to provide voters information on safely and easily voting by mail and about critical Democratic initiatives and ballot measures, including the Fair Tax amendment that will level the playing field for middle- and low-income taxpayers across the state. The new website provides voters with updates on the 2020 election and ways to get involved virtually, as well as allowing voters to quickly contact their local county Democratic party, as well as 2020 candidates running in their area.

“Our updated website is just one step in a larger effort to better connect with candidates, volunteers, and voters in every corner of Illinois,” Madigan added. “The Democratic Party of Illinois believes the strength of the party lies in its diversity, and is expanding the ways we reach voters of all backgrounds.”

OK.

The new site is here.

  1. It might make it easier for voters to follow along if Madigan was attributed as “Public Offical A” in his quotes.

  2. It’s a nice website, but I wonder if they’ll be updating their employment practices too so they reflect the so called labor stances of the Democratic Party i.e. pay full-time campaign staff a living wage, hire HR personnel so instances of harassment can be reported and dealt with, maybe allow union representation etc. Just thoughts?

    DPI… If you’re quoting Madigan… it’s not a rebranding.

    You’re welcome.

  4. Mr. Speaker, you’re a smart man. You see the growing group of your caucus members calling for resignation or leaning heavily in that direction. You’ve got to know how unlikely it will be that they can or will vote to retain you as Speaker in January - right? They can’t do that and face their voters without significantly damaging themselves back home.

So the best you can hope for is a splintered vote. You might very well be able to survive that. But is that what you want? To slog along in governing with that kind of open, no-turning-back division in your own camp? And it’s going to become more divided rather than less so. That disaffected group in your caucus is only going to grow in the coming weeks and months, not shrink.

Yes, there’s a lot of time between now and January. Yes, you’ve always been skilled at pulling your folks together, even when they chafe at it. But this time feels significantly different than the past.

It’s really time to bow out, sir.

You want a consolation prize? Bowing out is also your best chance at influencing some continuity in House leadership, if you really value that.

    Take this opportunity, Mr. Speaker.

  6. “The Chairman’s Record” + a quasi-creepy pic = A+ rebrand. Yet another white-run (on the paid staff side) organization putting on a “strength through diversity” front.

  8. Putting a massive picture of Madigan next to Pritzker…that’ll play well.

  9. if the website is making the party more accessible to voters where does this Democrat go on the website to vote for a new party chair?

    Ow,
    we finally agree on something.

  11. Looks ok, but fails to meet a few WCAG 2.1 guidelines. Basically, it’s not accessible for those with disabilities.

  12. - Downstate -

    I don’t care.

    To the post,

I’m not a Democrat, the party itself will need to find where they need to be. I’ve said I *think* Madigan should resign, and that means, everything, that means resign.

It’s this type of move that is phony to the idea that as an organization, you’re rebranding.

So looking at the politics to it, this appears to be a social media / website “doubling down” on Madigan.

“Ok”… as members of both legislative chambers call for, at least a resignation of party leadership (to keep this about DPI), what are y’all saying to elected stakeholders of the party?

  13. Why is Mike Madigan still around? It’s as though the Governor and Legislature are in need of AA or are CoDependents in need of therapy. Let’s have a breakthrough guys gain your emotional health and move forward.

  14. I am guessing the DPI had some leftover money from cutting out plans to fund a few campaigns.

  15. DPI does the equivalent of putting pearls on a pig, while ignoring the elephant in the room, Madigan. Agree with OW and other; quoting Madigan right now is a bad idea. But since the high-ups in the Party refuse to ask for his resignation (only low-level Dems seem to have the guts to do so), voters can see the corruption for themselves. Not that it will matter to the Party faithful….

  16. As more Democrats call for Madigan’s resignation…

Enough from the jv squad. Time for the varsity to step up to the mic. JB and Lori Lighweight have already punted. Durbin, Duckworth, Harmon, Susana, Jesse…is Madigan still your guy?
