  1. Miller Park has seen 2 no hitters…both by the Cubs. Only one against the Brewers.

  2. Yes, the winning pitcher was even from your favorite baseball town, Rich (banned punctuation)

  3. “I heard something about a no-hitter somewhere” Mitch Trubisky. I’m not sure he hit any of his receivers.

  4. I think you’re talking the next to last play of the game when a Detroit Lion player dropped a perfect, easy, game winning touchdown pass, without being hit.

  5. Alec Mills, the Phil Humber of 2020.

  6. First time in history both Chicago teams have had a no-hitter in the same season.

  7. =I’m not sure he hit any of his receivers.=

He hit them when it counted (How many TD’s did STafford throw?) and the Bears won.

  8. What a sports weekend. Watched the Sox and Abreu murdalize the Tigers on Saturday. Missed a lot of yesterday but did catch a few terrible parts of the Bears game on TV. Great to see the “no quit” in the team and the late comeback and win.

  9. From a walk-on at Tennessee Martin to a Major League no-hitter. It’s a great story.

    Comment by Cubs in '16 Monday, Sep 14, 20 @ 9:19 am

  10. Both sides of town with no-hitters.

    First time ever. Cool stuff.

Winning 12-0, dunno if you’d need greater concentration throwing a no-no in a blowout or a tight game.

    Either way, cool to see.

Then there’s the “Zambrano” no hitter that was also in Milwaukee, but not thrown at the Brewers, so cool baseball stuff going on.

  11. I’ve seen some pumpkin patches start opening and so far it seems like they aren’t requiring masks. Think the family will skip this annual tradition this year since we can’t count on the common sense of other people.

  12. Mills’ parents are both Illinois natives and EIU graduates, too!

Comment by Cubs Win Monday, Sep 14, 20 @ 9:33 am

  13. Don’t blame the IHSA kicking the ball into the Governors court. Going to be interesting to see what (if anything) he does with it.

Comment by OneMan Monday, Sep 14, 20 @ 9:37 am

  14. Same game, Baez sneaks home while the Brewers are not paying attention and time has not been called. Not tecnically stealing home cause it was not on the pitcher. Strange. I was of course watching the Sox at the time.

  15. ==player dropped a perfect, easy, game winning touchdown pass==

Not to mention that he was wide open. That would’ve rained on Mitch’s three minute parade.

  16. ==Miller Park has seen 2 no hitters…both by the Cubs. Only one against the Brewers.==

It occurred by Zambrano on Sept. 14, 2008. Against the Astros in the series moved to Miller Park due to Hurricane Ike. BTW–that same day Illinois experienced the peak wind gusts and effects of the remnants of Ike.

Amazing how yesterday’s no-no occurred a day short of 12 years to the day of the Zambrano no-hitter.

  17. Bears win in a surprise, Cubs No hitter and Sox still in 1st place too! Great Chicago sports day to celebrate in this odd year!

  18. Grimlock–Curtis Orchard near Champaign is open and they have pumpkins, apples, etc. The restaurant is open and is set up for social distancing. Masks were worn and I felt comfortable being there for a meal. Call them first before you go if you want pumpkin picking as I am not sure you can pick your own,

  19. University of Illinois is planning to install a power-generating nuclear reactor in the middle of campus next to where people live. How can this go wrong? #hubris

  20. The Bears are who we thought they were; Mitch couldn’t get the job done for 3/4 of the game. Wait until they play a tougher opponent and he melts down. Must be some good drugs in the water at Halas Hall that Matt and Ryan keep swigging. Hang in there, Nick…your time is coming soon.

  22. “University of Illinois is planning to install a power-generating nuclear reactor in the middle of campus”

Kinda like the TRIGA reactor they ran for 38 years, teaching a couple of generations of nuclear engineers?

Here is the new one they want to build.

  23. Anyone know when State Employee Flu Shots will be offered to those with State health insurance? Since those will be critical in this time of COVID.

I do not see anything about this on CMS’s website, other than information about each county’s health department. But nothing on Sangamon County Health Department’s website on a state employee flu shot clinic schedule.

Comment by Chatham Resident Monday, Sep 14, 20 @ 2:11 pm

  24. The TRIGA reactor was not used to generate electricity. It is a true research reactor. The “micro” reactor being planned will be used to generate electricity and steam. It is an entirely different class and a relatively new design with few operating examples. Again, what could go wrong? /s

  25. Hehehehe, being a die hard Cubs fan, that one literally made me laugh out loud Rich!

Chatham I just read this morning the announcement on state employee flu shots will be made in the next week.

Comment by Former Merit Comp Monday, Sep 14, 20 @ 2:58 pm

  26. What is the difference between a research reactor and a power producing reactor? Probably not much. They are still nuclear reactors.

Let’s see … 1950’s technology versus 21st century technology backed by 38 years of operating a reactor, in the back yard of the largest producer of nuclear energy, and finest research institutions in the country.

Will bet UIUC has the institutional knowledge to handle a new design. If they don’t, UIUC can pick up the phone and call someone with the answers.

Small package nuclear plants are the future.

  27. Chatham Resident - go to CMS and click on Flu Shots.
No flu shots at the state office bldgs this year. Either go to your doctor or your county dept of public health.

  28. Prove the nuclear design elsewhere before you plant one in the middle of a metropolitan area.

Mama–thank you so much for the info. I’m at SOS and we haven’t heard anything yet.

Springfield Clinic just opened two new drive-up labs (including one just north of 7th and South Grand). They also offer flu shots. Planning to go there first thing Thursday morning at 7 on my way to work
