* I’m told the Brzozowski campaign is putting about 650 points behind this ad on Rockford TV…
* Script…
My dad was in the Army for 25 years, but this place is my home. The people here are my friends, family and neighbors.
I grew up poor. I know what it’s like to pay for gas with change from the floorboards, wear shoes that are too small, to try so hard and come up against barriers you didn’t even know were there. And I know what it’s like to be trying anyway. So do all of you.
We need jobs and health care and health, and too many of us are struggling. We deserve more than Adam Kinzinger is giving us. I’m Dani Brzozowski and I approve this message.
President Trump won this district by 16 points four years ago. Bruce Rauner won it by 11. Secretary of State Jesse White has won it by double digits every cycle, but AG Lisa Madigan is the only other Democrat to have ever carried it, and that was by just 1.4 percentage points in 2014.
So, this may be a waste of time, but I’m still curious what you think.

It’s a B+.
Easy B+. This is one where someone doing the voiceover (meaning they candidate) you feel both the empathy they have, and you feel a connection being made to those the candidate is trying to speak to.
Impressive ad, the cutaways were fine, but fast, this cuts to the quick of how so many are feeling, not only during this campaign season, but since March.
Tasty good.

I am a democrat and I like Kinzinger. I would vote for him.

I like it, but then, my Dad was also in the Army for 25 years, and I also grew up poor in a conservative district (IL-18).
She reminds me a bit of Paula Jean Swearigen, the Dem candidate for US Senate in West Virginia facing off against Shelley Moore Capito. Swearigen is poor (daughter of coal miners) and a daughter of the people. Her platform is similar to Brzozowski’s.

Felt very rushed. Message was fine. C, C+. Even if it was an A and she was moneyed and a great campaigner, I still don’t see her getting within single digits of Kinzinger.

Solid effort in a get to know you rollout. Like her voice telling her story. Old guy complaint. I can’t stand how fast video cuts are made now, in one of these spots I think the viewer should be able to settle on an image for a moment. Don’t forget that people watch ads, they just don’t listen to them.
Really tough district to win in.
A.

I agree with the dbk comparison to Paula Jean. Going to be hard for Paula to win, but she sure is putting up one heck of a fight.
Thought the Ad was a solid A.
We need new voices in government.

I applaud her for using her own voice and telling her story. But the delivery of her message is rushed almost as if she had 45 seconds of material to fit into a 30 second slot. And because of that there’s no emotion or inflection in her voice. And the images flash so quickly that it’s hard to concentrate on what you’re seeing and hearing.
It’s just a rapid fire delivery. So the message is likely a “B” but the production values is a “D” which leaves me with an overall grade of “C.”

Kinzinger’s biggest problem might be his lack of presence in/connection to the district. It’s difficult for a challenger in a solid R (or D) district to get their name and message out. This is a good ad (I give it an A), but can it get in front of enough people and can Dani get other hits (media, mailers, social media, etc) with enough voters in the district? It’s a steep slope and a tall hill.

Rushed, a hodgepodge of cornpone, and the usual D talking points. C-

It’s a steep, steep climb, but I wouldn’t label it a waste of time. I respect when people step into the arena. I would say it’s a kamikaze mission, though. Kinzinger votes solidly Republican which satisfies the base, but voices just enough displeasure with Trump to temper dissatisfaction from Democrats. He walks the fine line well, definitely better than Rodney Davis.
I took another look at the district boundaries, wow is that gerrymandered. To reach all the voters you would probably have to advertise in five media markets: Peoria/Bloomington, Champaign, Chicago, Rockford, Quad Cities. That district is ripe for being carved up after the census.
