Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) laments Gov. J.B. Pritzker seems to have a one-track mind when it comes to his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Gov. Pritzker has a Chicago-centric view that impedes his ability to make decisions that make sense across Illinois,” Ives told the DuPage Policy Journal of the governor’s recent decision to extend his statewide stay-at-home order through the end of the month. “Our state is a very diversified entity. It is not surprising that people are upset with his one-size-fits-all policies that fail to respect the diversity of the state.” […]
“Oftentimes, governing requires nuance; Gov. Pritzker exhibits none,” she said.

Yes, because imposing the same set of rules and regulations for solo horseback riding and contact football would be such nuanced governing.

[Yesterday] morning, Minnesota Congressman Tom Emmer called into 560-AM’s morning drive program. During the discussion, host Dan Proft asked him about some of the divisive comments that IL Congressman Sean Casten has recently made. Emmer slammed Casten for his toxic demeanor and approach to politics (Listen to the clip here)
At the 11:15 min mark, Proft played a clip in which Casten was asked how he would work with a Republican Senate to get his legislation through. Casten’s response was, “We’ll throw in a provision that everyone gets a gun and we’ll say some mean things about gay people.”
Emmer responded by sharing his experience of serving with Casten on the House Financial Services Committee saying, “I’ve had first hand exposure to his arrogant, condescending, demeaning approach to politics. He’s not there building bridges… You want to know how smart Mr. Casten is? Just ask him. He’ll tell you. He has disdain for everyone. Ask Republicans and Democrats alike. He’s just the smartest guy in the room no matter what the issue is. And when he doesn’t have an argument, he slides into this really nasty, less than professional (as my dad would have said) very immature sense of humor.
Emmer went on to say, “When you run on the idea that you’re going to be a moderate problem solver, when you run on the idea that you’re going to reach across the aisle and work with other people, including the administration, and then your behavior is everything but that, it’s just the opposite, I think Illinois voters are going to remember that when they go to vote for Jeanne Ives in the next 43 days.”

Rep. Sean Casten released his second TV ad of the cycle today. The ad highlights Jeanne Ives’ support for Donald Trump and his destructive policies, and also features former chairman of the Illinois Republican Party Pat Brady.
This ad follows Rep. Casten’s first TV spot “Molecular” and is part of the $2.4 Million ad buy previously announced by the campaign.

It’s really a shame that it’s Jeanne Ives running. That allows Casten to be as nasty as he wants because Ives is a (forgive my phrase but) nasty woman who has said horrible things in the past. I can’t imagine moderate democrats appreciate the things Casten says but how could you vote for Ives instead? Casten acts like he can’t be beat, and while he won’t be beat this cycle, it doesn’t mean he’s safe in the future.

Rich won’t mention him because he hates Libertarians and thinks we’re all idiots…but Bill Redpath makes more sense than either Ives or Casten. Too bad media won’t give him the time of day.
No measured approach from either of them. Redpath has more principles in his little finger than either of the partisanship these two present.

I don’t think Mr. Emmer is smart enough to understand the approach Casten is taking.
His paragraph of complaints about Casten could easily be used to describe the president, and Emmer is blissfully unaware of it.

Casten’s comment about Senate Republicans really was pretty funny.
You have to wonder if Emmer genuinely did not get the humor or if understood it and chose to act like it was something that it was not.
Proft, in contrast, surely did understand the humor but ran with Emmer’s interpretation.
Proft in person is a pretty nice guy.
What I find amusing about him is that in person he won’t admit it but it is pretty clear that he understands his gig, knows he makes a good living from it, and so he goes for it. I get the distinct impression from him that he gets it is just a job.
I may be wrong of course, but if I’m right, I have an odd respect for him.

I give the Casten ad a B. What Trump replacement healthcare plan is the ad talking about? Trump has no healthcare plan except dismantling the ACA.
Still, Trump is one of the worst presidents in our history, and Ives gives him top rating. That’s low hanging fruit for oppo ads.

Proft knows who he is. It’s those who think he’s passionate about it and the money is the residual are those being duped.

As I have said before, Ives needs to be thumped hard. Only then can a moderate Republican have a chance in the primary.
Will take the risk of voting in person to vote against Ives. My signature has deteriorated the last few years. Not sure mail in would work.

Shame on Jeanne Ives. I realize that’s redundant but this is truly shocking and disgusting. There are more than a dozen allowed sports. How dare you do this to a teenage girl. As Joseph Welch said in the McCarthy hearings, “You’ve done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?”
This is beyond the pale.

I knew Demmer when he was first elected. I did not think highly of him, but was almost moved by the amount of people whose opinions I respect telling me he is a decent, respectable conservative.

As with the Oberweis Ad yesterday, Casten takes a quote and hammers his opponent with it. Are either taking liberties with context? Who knows? But if Trump is a drag on GOP candidates in the 6th district as he is in the suburbs, generally, this is a solid B.
And for those who complain about Democrats featuring Republican supporters in ads (and at the convention), please stop. For everyone other than Trump and you, politics is a game of addition. SMH.

I know signs don’t vote but I’m in the 6th - a very historically red section of the 6th - and I’m seeing many signs for Biden, Casten, and BLM.
Just five years ago, putting a Democratic sign in your yard would’ve gone over about as well as standing out in your altogether.

I’m in Casten’s district so I have a pretty good feel for his leadership and character. He does have a habit of making sarcastic remarks much like a late night comedian might. But I’ve never seen anything from him that shows the utter contempt that Ives has for minorities, single mothers, the LGBTQ community, or anyone else that doesn’t share in her “values.” And if you haven’t noticed, immaturity isn’t exactly disqualifying to hold national office these days.
