Ricky Renteria is a good man. I wish him well. The Sox need an experienced manager who is ready and capable of winning a World Series. Understanding pitching is essential. A guy that blends analytics with baseball savvy is the key. A former catcher. Sounds about right. But who?

Amused that the team floated Tony La Russa’s name through USA Today yesterday. Rick Hahn’s description of what he’s looking for certainly sounds like AJ Hinch.

Reteria sealed his fate with about a week to go in the season. His handling of the pitching staff was baffling and it’s good to see that they’re moving on from Cooper as well. I give the Sox credit for being loyal but the Cooper year was years overdue.

Sandy Alomar Jr gets my vote of confidence. He had a great year filling in for Tito in Cleveland. Small sample, yes. But he isn’t linked to any cheating scandals. Hinch would probably be a decent manager, but the thought of the Sox hiring him makes me consider my fandom and if I can really root for my team like I always have. Cora is a hard no. He was the biggest cheater.

Careful what you wish for. His philosophy in the WS was to get through seven innings and then bring in Chapman regardless of how well others were pitching.

What a pleasant surprise. I was good with firing Renteria that day in August when he batted Nicky Delmonico clean-up. Bringing in Carlos Rodon instead of Aaron Bummer in the Cleveland series was almost as egregious…one of those moves that undoubtedly had the players wondering what the heck was going on.
Every name that’s been floated so far would be an improvement, but I would think they’d pick a manager who can speak Spanish. Reinsdorf is known to like Alomar.

I was surprised the Sox did this, but I am fine with the move. Fine with Hinch, Cora, or Alomar Jr but no Ned Yost please.

Ozzie Guillén and Tony LaRussa are not the answer for the south side ball club.
And while LaRussa turned a “watchful eye” away with a nod in Oakland and later in St. Louis, a manager who cheated as AJ Hinch or Alex Cora, they both bred a culture of cheating to win, not just a few ball players juicing for their own benefit.
The ball club needs to find a Joe Maddon that can in-game manage and understands pitching in-game and handling bull pens for a season too.
The ball club is on the cusp, the right skipper will make a difference.

I saw someone comment that you need a Renterria before you get a manager who can get you to a world series. Before Renterria there was a Joe Maddon and we all know what happened there! He must got the touch, although not to keep a manager job evidently.

Since the Cards are apparently never going to give Jose Oquendo a chance, maybe the White Sox will. He may be happy where he is though, but I think he’d be worth giving a call too.

Yadier Molina knows pitchers and pitching, knows in-game management, speaks Spanish is a clubhouse leader — and is a top-notch individual who can also give you an easy 150 Hall of Fame-caliber games behind the plate. Now is the time for the Chisox to build or bust.

Sandy Alomar Jr. seems like the most likely at this point. Ozzie is out. Larussa is old.
I imagine Alomar would be a great leader of this team, especially being so heavily Latino/Spanish speaking.
Another potential, though lacking the major league managing experience, would be Omar Vizquel. Maybe he could be Alomar’s bench coach.
