* I had to delete some open thread comments yesterday because they strayed too far into national politics. If you want to discuss that topic, please find another venue. Keep it Illinois-centric and polite, please. Thank you kindly.

  1. I was one who did it, I was wrong. I’m sorry Rich. I know better.

As I’m watching sports, some with fans, I’m reading more and more folks buying into Lightfoot’s “we’ll see” about fans for Bears games before the season ends.

I can’t imagine how that’ll play out well if Lightfoot decides to have fans at Soldier Field, as businesses struggle, in the fall, and fans at 5 events seems to be counter how Lightfoot’s administration has tried to fight the virus.

  2. It’s raining southern IL this morning! The rain is most welcome - yesterday had to be some kind of record in southern IL for brush, field, and combine fires.

  3. There is a lot of advertising on the hot 13th district congressional race between Davis (I) and Londrigan. The Illinois Times has a piece by David Blanchette which might be of interest for undecided voters in this district.

Bernie Schoenberg also has a column about Davis’ father’s west side Springfield house (which he’s had since 1994) being within LaHood’s 18th, but he still was elected RNC delegate from his son’s 13th.

The story is currently “subscribers only” on the SJ-R but is also running in the Herald-Review and Pantagraph:

  5. Someone commented a while back about having trouble with cap fax on their iphone. I’m having same issue. An error pops up and it keeps reloading. Anyone else?

  6. Birds: I had the same yesterday, when I clicked on an article on Cap Fax. I got a pop up saying my phone had been hacked and to follow some link to fix it. I just closed down Safari and rebooted and have had no further issues.

However, if the pop up starts to send you to PETCO’s website, we will know Oscar has finally completed his takeover of the blog.

  7. I see that the Sox were granted permission to talk to Tony Larussa yesterday. I’m giving them permission to end those talks quickly and realize that it’s time to let go of the past.

I can appreciate the loyalty that Jerry Reinsdorf has to former players and personnel, but it’s held back both of his professional organizations over the years. Donovan was a solid hire to coach the Bulls. That’s the type of direction the Sox should head in.

  8. ===Oscar has finally completed his takeover of the blog===

I initially thought it was just a clever marketing hack by PETCO until I saw a link for ‘Oscar’s gift registry’.

  9. That Bernie column was interesting.

Rodney Davis is not at all believable claiming he doesn’t know which house his Dad is sleeping in.

Rodney’s comparison of a college student voting from a college address to his dad buying a cheap property in Taylorville he didn’t live in so he could vote for Rodney was risible.

Please send this phony packing, good people of the 15th.

Who knows, depending on how the remap shakes out both this house, and Taylorville, may be in the 15th two years from now.

  13. The story about Rodney Davis’s Father was very interesting, especially Rodney’s answers. The story said his father travels to another state a lot so I wonder does he have a home there also? Some people stop and stay some place 30 minutes from home after a long drive. Some even buy a house for that very reason.

  14. ===when I clicked on an article on Cap Fax===

    What was the link?

Comment by Rich Miller Thursday, Oct 15, 20 @ 10:57 am

  15. “a lot of folks own multiple houses.”- Rodney Davis

I own just the one…I believe Davis may be referring to his donors?

  16. Hubby has been dealing with one of the IDES scams. It began as a contact to his employer (who noted that the scammers were in possession of the last 4 digits of his SSN). Then we received a verification letter for a new home address that is actually an old one where we haven’t lived for 30 years — we don’t even know if it’s a legit inquiry from IDES itself, as he can’t get through by phone and his email hasn’t been answered.

A couple weeks ago a friend (who’s been retired for several years) received one of the IDES debit cards and almost activated it because she thought it was a replacement for one of her cards that was expiring.

The address thing makes me think the scammers are using one of those public info database websites.
