Quite the morning. Woke up just in time to read the fax hot off the presses at 3am. Going to be an interesting day.

I can’t express how pleased I am that ComEd is in deep…
I have my own personal and former job related reasons for this, but all I can say corrupt monopolistic utility…karma!

The Bulls took a little bit of a gamble with Patrick Williams. But, most analysts say it was a reasonable gamble. I would like the Bulls to get another banner in my lifetime.

What’s the over-under on Madigan’s indictment coming before Christmas?

Now, outside of his family why would any sentient Democrat in Illinois visably and vocally support the speaker at this dangerous moment? It seems a big sigh of relief is in order across the state that it now feels safe to veer off that course for the first time in ages.

Illinois is not alone (is that an Illinois-centric statement?)

Agreed. In fact, Let’s check the Twitter accounts of the Gov’s staff, since they are always free and quick to say whatever is on their mind about the hottest issues in Ststr governement. Especially ethics, and staying above-board in one’s conduct.
Hm, interesting. Doesn’t seem like much has happened overnight. Must not be much in the news.

Your query is misguided, as it’s about the visible partisan.
Your question should be “will labor and groups of interest still feel the need or continue to want to publicly support Madigan as speaker?”
In a family fight like this, it’s about who can bring the most to the table, while also not being a detriment or a liability.
It’s beyond likely that more Dems will walk away from the Speaker, we’ll see how the feeding frenzy goes, the real look will be who can, after Madigan gets below 58, can mend fences with the outside supporters to keep the cobbled together.

Let me correct my earlier post. There has been some activity on those accounts. Apparently there’s a really good bio-epic coming out soon. Will need to check that out.

I just read an interesting article discussing who the electors are from IL. The article lists Jesus Garcia as an elector. I was under the impression that sitting congressmen cannot be electors. Does anyone out there have any insights into this. Maybe it was typo on the article. Here is a link to the article: https://jg-tc.com/news/state-and-regional/govt-and-politics/meet-the-illinois-electoral-college-delegates/article_0dfbef8d-01d4-5c2c-9517-2b2372f21672.html#tracking-source=home-top-story-1

Now, outside of his family why would any sentient republican support Donald Trump?
Many that post here have often stated that MJM should step down. Many. Often.
The same cannot be said for Trump (and yes, the blog is Illinois centric). Since this blog is Illinois centric I don’t here any calls for Trump’s Illinois enablers to step down either.
Stones and glass houses. Self awareness.

They can Stonewall with the best of them. I wish the Bears offensive line could hold it together as well as the 13th.

My hope for the new year will be that political centrists/centrism will become not only allowable, but acceptable. Within the parameters of The Middle, opinions and policies will be debated with vigor and respect. ‘Winners’ will be happy but quickly on to the next issue. ‘Losers’ will be disappointed, but intent on upping their game vs. demonizing their opponents. The Middle must hold, and goodness must prevail. In this environment, a decent person with charisma and a better way is a long shot for certain. But Trump has proven, ‘Anything Can Happen”.

I am not a Speaker Madigan fan, but I can point to a great many things that Speaker Madigan is at least in some part responsible for of which I am a fan and even when weighing the cost of public corruption vs. say, Bruce Rauner’s technically not illegal failure to pass a budget, continuing to spend as if they had the same budget in place while simultaneously and maliciously reducing revenue to purposefully create a crisis literally cost the state of Illinois many billions of dollars.
I don’t like Speaker Madigan, but Speaker Madigan has never openly waged war on our state’s institutions and purposefully forced vendors providing everything from child care and DCFS functions to meals for senior citizens to go under in a vainglorious effort to make it illegal for public employees to ask for better working conditions.
This is a subject I could probably write at least a dozen pages on too. I don’t like Speaker Madigan, but when looking at what the GOP alternative officers — which includes now both overt and at least tacit support of filling body bags with the bodies of our fellow residents, some of whom are friends, family members, but also healthcare workers just trying to do their job just so they can rail against Pritzker for mitigation efforts to save lives — At least Mike Madigan isn’t trying to kill me or my parents.
That’s not a defense of Speaker Madigan, but that should be an indictment of the Illinois GOP and their morally bankrupt efforts to pick up a seat or two to strengthen their super minority by appealing to the worst natures of our fellow Illinoisans while being bankrolled by the kind of people that inspire villains in Dungeons and Dragons campaigns.
I also don’t like Nixon either. But Richard Nixon can be viewed separately from his accomplishments in office which includes things like the Clean Air Act.
Considering Speaker Madigan in a vacuum which ignores the last twenty years of political history in this state isn’t going to paint a clear picture of why other elected officials and other organizations are prone to initially lend their support to him.
Before the Illinois GOP became peddlers of policies and rhetoric that have contributed to the deaths of thousands of Illinoisans they also aided and abetted an intentional and malicious effort to make the fiscal situation of Illinois worse, to make our bill back log worse, to attack our institutions, and to try to destroy our public universities in just a whole scale approach burning everything down to protect the pocket book of their handful of billionaire donors.
Whatever Mike Madigan did wasn’t enough to merit an indictment, but there are members of the GOP legislative caucus that are cheer leading a public health response that is indescriminently killing people, and to quote our President Elect, that’s not hyperbole, folks.

13th ward players, Mama Bear too frugal to pay players who don’t work.

Being the cynic I am, does anyone think Lisa Madigan got wind of this three years ago which is why she decided she won’t run again because frankly she could of just danced through her re-election. It would put her in a tough spot if this was coming out and as the states top law enforcer had to comment on her father.

If you read what Lisa wrote, it was about her father not stepping aside and choosing himself (no pun intended) over her next steps.
With respect.

=== What Lisa wrote publicly and what Lisa knew privately could be two different things.===
So, with that thinking… Lisa decided to disparage and call out her father for stifling her continued public service, personally… because of indictments 3 years coming, that yet to include her father?
It’s too early to be imbibing at that level.

We should start a petition to name Edwards County after Jesse White. I know we have a White County, but given the map location if we rename Edwards County as Jesse County it will appear with Jesse County above White County on the map.
This is a thing we should do.
