The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 6,190 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 85 additional deaths.
Cook County: 1 female 30s, 1 female 50s, 1 male 50s, 5 females 60s, 6 males 60s, 12 females 70s, 11 males 70s, 10 females 80s, 13 males 80s, 3 females 90s, 2 males 90s
DeKalb County: 1 male 60s
DuPage County: 1 female 70s, 1 male 70s
Kane County: 1 female 70s, 1 female 80s
Lake County: 1 male 70s
LaSalle County: 1 male 50s, 1 male 90s
Madison County: 1 male 60s, 1 male 90s
Mason County: 1 male 80s, 1 female 90s
McDonough County: 1 male 60s
Monroe County: 1 female 80s
Ogle County: 1 female 90s
Peoria County: 1 female 50s
Tazewell County: 1 male 70s, 1 male 80s
Will County: 2 females 90sCurrently, IDPH is reporting a total of 726,304 cases, including 12,278 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 66,980 specimens for a total 10,497,998. As of last night, 5,849 in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 1,217 patients were in the ICU and 715 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from November 23 – November 29, 2020 is 10.2%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from November 23 – November 29, 2020 is 12.2%.

Southern Illinois currently has the lowest availability of ICU beds: 14 of 88 avail in Region 5 (far southern Illinois) and 19 of 113 in Region 4 (Illinois side of St. Louis). Will & Kankakee counties improving with 34 of 162 ICU beds available.

*** UPDATE *** The governor just said that no region would be moved back to Tier II for the next few weeks because of all the Thanksgiving gatherings and travel. Pritzker said he talked to Dr. Fauci this morning, who said “the massive number of indoor gatherings by people visiting family and friends across the nation will very likely bring a post Thanksgiving surge, and he believes this is no time to pull back on mitigations.”

If you think these numbers are bad, wait for the post-Thanksgiving surge to come. So many people had to have get-togethers and flout simple preventive measurers….

Unless those rules were already in place (and I missed it), or if I missed the reasoning during part of a press conference, anyone know why IDPH changed the positivity rate magic number from 8% to 12% last week?

Due to the Holiday scheduling, physicians offices being closed, etc, I would imagine that there might be an immediate update in positive results from tests that are performed today and tomorrow even before accounting for any Thanksgiving Super Spreader Events.
Lets hope there were a lot of responsible families in Region 4 and Region 5.

I think we should wait a few days before we celebrate any reduction in positivity rate. I do not think we have had 100% complete numbers reported for all 102 counties since before Thanksgiving. Let’s see the pattern that emerges later in the week as we catch up late reports. Then let’s wait another week to see what test results are for tests taken after the Thanksgiving weekend.

Wait until Wednesday and Thursday numbers and everyone will realize we’ve just started this mess.
Around 700 Icu beds or so will be gone soon and then the death rate will climb significantly

To the update: This signals tier III will remain in place until at least Mid-January as the same concern will be placed on December holidays.

If the thresholds for moving between tiers/mitigations can be ignored for whatever reason, why have them at all? Checking my calendar it seems Christmas and New Years is on the horizon; why not just be honest and tell everyone to abandon hope until at least March 2021 if holidays can upend the science around the tiers and mitigations?

And yet I’m sure that those State Employees still expected to report to the office daily, but could work remotely (at least on a part-time basis), will still be expected to come into the old, poorly-ventilated state offices for work every day.

No problem. Just travel to any one of the many communities in Illinois that isn’t even trying to enforce the mitigation efforts. You can drink and dine in doors all over the state, just not at any responsible business or in any community with responsible civic officials.

Godspeed to the vaccines - I have high hopes on the Johnson & Johnson one in particular (strong early results, single dose, room temperature, massive production capability).

Just think, a few months ago I thought 2500 cases a day and a positivity rate of 3.9% was bad.

State Employee?
Are you a union employee? If so I would be talking to my rep.
Have you filled a complaint with govenors office? CMS? IL department of Labor?
Every single one of those places has a way to file complaints as a state employee.
I mean if you have done these things and they still bring you in then I feel for you.

Unions are a very important factor in providing a safe or at least safer work place for employees, but being in a union doesn’t magically override any decision made by management and doesn’t cause senior management, including agency directors, from holding middle and lower management accountable. The fact that there hasn’t been a string of firings of lower and middle management should be an indication that senior management — as in the people that the agency directors have decided to trust — haven’t held exempt employees accountable.
And as such you have employees reporting to different work sites all over the state that are subject to differing degrees of concern over their safety. What happens at agency headquarters is going to be different than the satellite office, and if when things go wrong at the satellite officer or even at headquarters, no one is fired in a very public fashion you’ll see line supervisors all the way up to senior level management make callous decisions.
The organizational culture among our state agencies isn’t exactly reinforcing managers with gold stars for addressing problems instead of ignoring them and pretending they aren’t happening.
There’s a significant portion of our population that think COVID-19 is an exaggerated and overblown hoax. If you think no one with those views is in a management role with the state, you’d be mistaken.
A bargaining unit state employee can’t just walk off the job or refuse to report to work without consequences, even if what they’re being told by their immediate administration is significantly different from what’s coming out of the Governor’s office.

If you’re going down this road, you should read the agency responses to DOL complaints that have already been made. The agency director’s response is typically out of step with the complaint.

A someone who has been very supportive of the mitigations to date, it pains me to say this. But the Governor and Dr. Ezike lose a lot of credibility with this decision. They issued rules and metrics two weeks ago to move back to Tier 2. Now they are saying they are not going to follow those metrics. There is nothing from the last weekend that wasn’t known two weeks ago. Very poor planning.
