  3. What should be the 2020 lyrics to this wonderful song?

    Bear down, Chicago Bears, make every play clear the way to victory;
Bear down, Chicago Bears, put up a fight with a might so fearlessly.
We’ll never forget the way you thrilled the nation, with your T-formation.
Bear down, Chicago Bears, and let them know why you’re wearing the crown.
You’re the pride and joy of Illinois, Chicago Bears, bear down.

  5. Stare down, Chicago Bears, down at your feet when you’re beat so ruthlessly;
Stare down, Chicago Bears, and take defeat like an old bear toothlessly.
We’ll never forget the draft you picked so risky, with young Mitch Trubisky.
Stare down, Chicago Bears, and let Mahomes just keep wearing the crown.
Though your draft picks stink, have another drink, Chicago Bears, stare down.

  6. Good reminder on Pearl Harbor Day.
    Thanks.
Sometimes we get so wrapped in things that we forget those special dates that we should always remember.

  7. The Bears need a major shake-up, but unfortunately it starts with ownership, who’s not going to sell the team. Lots of years of bad hiring and player selection choices.

  8. Just found out that only a month after you receive your 2nd shot of the vaccine, do you get to the advertised 90+ rate of immunity to covid. So, two months after your first shot. Whenever that might be…

Comment by PublicServant Monday, Dec 7, 20 @ 8:43 am

  9. When old man Wirtz of Chicago Blackhawks fame passed Rocky Wirtz the son was given the keys to the team. Change in leadership and direction was all it took for a 10 year dynasty to emerge. Unfortunately I don’t see any family member with the pedigree of a Rocky Wirtz to take over and change things at Halas Hall. Loyal Bears fans are stuck unfortunately.

  10. MJM and the McCaskeys need to be retired…

Comment by Loop Lady Monday, Dec 7, 20 @ 8:54 am

  11. So what worn out, recycled coach do the Bears hire after the firing? Ditka?

Comment by Bruce( no not him) Monday, Dec 7, 20 @ 9:03 am

  12. Go ahead, fire Nagy.

You still have a QB problem that dates back decades.
The last one who won it all did it with a once a century RB and defense.

  13. “what worn out, recycled coach”

I’m sure that orgainzation will even underwhelm with that move.

    Think Jack Del Rio.

  18. Obviously you don’t want Pace drafting the QB of the future so he has to go. The new GM will want his own coach so out goes Nagy. Problem is the McCaskeys and Ted Phillips will still be there to pick the next GM who will hire the next coach and draft the next QB and around and around we go.

  19. @ Dysfunction Junction:

    Golden Horseshoe worthy.

  20. “what worn out, recycled coach”

Maybe Lovie Smith will be available in a few weeks? And rectify the mistake, in my opinion, the Bears made in firing him in 2012 despite a 10-6 season but no playoffs?

Comment by Chatham Resident Monday, Dec 7, 20 @ 10:12 am

  21. ===Obviously you don’t want Pace drafting the QB of the future so he has to go. The new GM will want his own coach so out goes Nagy===

Nah, new GM keeps Nagy in place for a year or two, *then* hires his own guy. That way he gets two bites at the apple and a longer tenure…

Comment by Joe Bidenopolous Monday, Dec 7, 20 @ 10:13 am

  22. @ Nagidam

Not so sure that “all it took” was Rocky taking over for the old man. It certainly didn’t hurt, and Bill never would have hired John McDonough.. But being able to draft Toews and Kane in back to back years helped.

And now look… It’s Rocky who’s leading a listless organization, one that’s getting old, hamstrung by bad contracts and has made questionable decisions to keep people around both in the front office and behind the bench. If only it was as easy as the Packers and Patriots have shown it to be.

    Man the Bears stink.

Comment by Cool Papa Bell Monday, Dec 7, 20 @ 10:17 am

  23. =You still have a QB problem that dates back decades.=

What we have here is a failure of ownership. As in team ownership. That fact that any issue plaguing the team “goes back decades” is the clearest evidence that the McCaskeys should outright sell the team.

    Comment by Colin O'Scopy Monday, Dec 7, 20 @ 10:18 am

    Read the article twice.
That was an incredible first hand account of the war.

  25. Is it just my imagination, or does Chicago have a connection to more than its share of bad sports franchise owners (both in and out of Chicago)? The Halas / McCaskey family, the Bidwill family, Jerry Reinsdorf, the Comiskey family, the Wrigley family, the Wirtz family, Robert Irsay, Ray Kroc? Am I forgetting anyone?

Comment by Anyone Remember Monday, Dec 7, 20 @ 10:30 am

  26. Who is out first? MJM or Pace/Nagy?

Comment by Precinct Captain Monday, Dec 7, 20 @ 10:38 am

  27. “should outright sell the team”

But, barring some incident that embarasses the league, they won’t be forced to, which means they aren’t going anywhere.
Which means the focus has to be on what is put on the field.
Which means firing the coach, the GM, or calling for a change in ownership changes nothing.
See Detroit, Cincinatti, NY Jets, San Diego, etc.

  33. Bears with an ownership problem? Forbes says they are worth around 3.4 Billion. Up a whole bunch the last 10 years. It’s a business.

Yes Virginia, it’s an ownership problem.

Comment by Chatham Resident Monday, Dec 7, 20 @ 2:43 pm

  37. The Magnificent Purple Walnut, that’s the exact kind of attitude that helped to curse the Cubs for over 100 years. As long as the Cubs were profitable the Tribune wasn’t exactly motivated to put together winning teams. As for the Bears, yes it is a business and you know how you make a business more profitable, you become successful.

  38. Pearl Harbor. What brought the US out of our isolationist “America first” phase. A lot of people we owe a lot of gratitude to. Use your freedom wisely.
