* Todd Greenburg of Normal…
When I was starting out as an attorney 40 years ago, I told my first boss, John P. Meyer, a former state senator, that I was unsure which political party to associate with. “You can go into the Republican Party and try to moderate it, or you can go into the Democratic Party and try to reform it,” he told me.
Forty years later, the political parties in Illinois are about where they were then.

Wow. That is about as spot on as I can say, without any political theory being applied. That is absolutely amazing.

Compared to now, 40 years ago the Republican Party didn’t need moderation

I might flip the sides today asserting that its the Dems that need moderating and the GOP that needs reforming, but otherwise spot on.

There’s an analysis in which Biden did better than Hillary in Chicago suburbs and collars (with Trump having done better in Chicago). Trump and the rural GOP base really hurt the party in Illinois and in suburbia elsewhere. Imagine the party’s image going forward, after the fascist insurrection.

The Republican Party is clearly dangerous…to Democracy.
No moderation or reformation will help.

Todd Greenburg did a good job as Corporatiaon Counsel for the city of Sprinigfield. Then-Mayor Mike Houston hired him to replace the attorney who resigned in the wake of the paper shredding scandal re: police personnel files.
