The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 6,652 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 88 additional deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,052,682 cases, including 17,928 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 118,036 specimens for a total 14,457,620. As of last night, 3,511 in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 742 patients were in the ICU and 382 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from January 7–13, 2021 is 6.8%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from January 7–13, 2021 is 8.0%.

As of last night, 704,225 doses of vaccine were delivered to providers in Illinois, including Chicago. In addition, approximately 268,525 doses have been allocated to the federal government’s Pharmacy Partnership Program for long-term care facilities. This brings the total Illinois doses to 972,750. IDPH is currently reporting a total of 414,296 vaccines administered, including 51,891 for long-term care facilities. The 7-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 26,703 doses.

    Give it time - the current vaccines are getting shipped in volume. As of 1/12/21 “25 million doses of the Moderna and the Pfizer Inc.-BioNTech vaccines have been sent to 16,000 locations throughout the United States”. The J&J single-dose vaccine can be stored in a refrigerator and that one is hopefully only a month out. Keep up the masking and social distancing for just a few more months

Businesses in some regions can move back to Tier 2 tomorrow (allegedly) and still the Restore Illinois website gives no guidance on what that means: https://coronavirus.illinois.gov/s/restore-illinois-mitigation-plan. You can sort of find Tier 2 if you look but it certainly isn’t clear what the rules will be. Glad we are moving into this territory but businesses need to be able to plan.

  6. There was a bit of bad news on the J&J vaccine (which I have high hopes for as well) - apparently they are pretty far behind in their production schedule. I hope Biden seriously considers invoking the Defense Production Act - I don’t know how quickly third party production of vaccines can be set up, but if they can I hope they do it.

  8. As equally important to getting the vaccines shipped is the ability to have enough people available to distribute them. That is the other half of the equation.

  9. Pritzker held back regions going to phase 3 because of concern of holiday outbreak. Once regions enter phase 3 all this data resets meaning regions can’t move to phase 4 until after 28 days of data. Phase 4 is where indoor dining and bars can open. Be interesting if he changes this and allows data to carry over. Restaurants and bars not being able to open until mid February or later could be the final punch.

  11. Stu, I know you can find Tier 2 if you look, but how hard would it be to put it on the Restore Illinois website where businesses and citizens are trained to look. And here is a challenge: You own a movie theater that had to close in Tier 3. Can you open?
