Oh, What a beautiful morning.
(Sorry, that’s Oklahoma-centric. But also true here today.)

I’m taking my big winter coat to the dry cleaner today. It’s WAY early, but dry cleaners are hurting (per a story I heard on WBEZ) and can use the work. Plus, it’s supposedly going to be in the 60s this afternoon. I figure if it does get cold again, I can just not go outside.

I’m thinking some of you may know DeKalb’s new police chief because it’s 31-year Illinois State Police veteran David Byrd. FYI for anyone who was wondering where he’d landed. He was chosen from a field of 27 candidates (2 internal) and the decision was announced last evening.

Over the last few months, we have made several out of state trips. Illinois roads are terrible compared to Indiana, Kentucky and Missouri. We returned to Illinois on I-255 from Missouri, I-24 from Kentucky and I-64 from Indiana. There is a significant deterioration in roadway quality that is very evident as you cross the state line.

During trips to see family, noticed the non-toll roads in Oklahoma are far worse than Illinois non-toll roads. In Oklahoma City concrete roads have buckled and cracked to the extent you could plant trees in them.

=Illinois roads are terrible compared to Indiana, Kentucky and Missouri.=
Among the terrible roads are most city streets in Springfield. Especially the Business 55 routes in the city (at least from downtown southward to Southern View). And South MacArthur between South Grand and Wabash/Stanford.
The forementioned stretch of South MacArthur, as well as 6th Street (Business 55) from near Stanford to I-72, has the reddish gold Asphalt. It almost resembles Pea Gravel. I’ve only seen such asphalt on some state-maintained highways in IDOT District 6. It looks like something I’d expect only on a well-funded County highway.
Was the Reddish gold asphalt in IDOT Dist 6 the choice Asphalt of Bill Cellini back in the day? I have never seen similar asphalt on other IDOT regions’ state highways.

Meyers Leonard of the Miami Heat has been recorded making an anti-Semetic slur.
Leonard is a Robinson HS (part of the Eastern Bloc) and played two years with the Illini.
