JB Pritzker unilaterally locked down healthy people while putting our most vulnerable at risk. He shuttered businesses, destroyed livelihoods and jeopardized mental health. He failed to provide PPE and essential resources to the people who needed it most, and this is sadly the result of his failed leadership. Our veterans and every person across the state deserve better.

It’s really not a bad ad. I’d give it a solid B+. Typically though, there is this reality problem that gets in the way of Republicans… like getting kicked off the House floor for refusing to wear a mask (which saves lives). There is also the whole thing with Covid being a pandemic. How many people outside of the Quincy Veterans Home died of Legionnaires’ in Illinois around that time? Zero. How many died of Covid around that time? 24,000.

Horrible production and voice over. Listen close and the guy mispronounces LaSalle. It could be a good hit but this will detract from it being used better in a year.

The end… “the only failed governor that’s cost people their lives is JB Pritzker” absolves Rauner, so for a Facebook ad, it’s really good for their echo chamber.
As far as Facebook ads roll?
As of this moment, Pritzker can spend $98,000 a day, every day, until March and it won’t faze him. The money is there.
Can a video on Facebook do enough *after March* when Pritzker will likely have double or more to spend against Bailey (if he’s the nominee)?
It’s a solid B… but Facebook is as good as Facebook can be for its audience.

Good ad for upping Pritzker’s negatives downstate- -where his negatives are already sky high. At this point, the goal is to solidify his base and get him past the primary. This spends too much time showing Pritzker and none on Bailey. It’s a solid double with nobody on base.

This only appeals to the Bailey base and they will miss the abject hypocrisy of accusing Pritzker of not doing enough while Bailey and is pals did everything they possibly could to block the governor from doing what needed to be done and still are.

It would be a good ad, a B rating—for those in favor of COVID restrictions. It’s a confused message coming from the anti-mitigation people like Bailey. Do you want to wear masks and social distance or not? If it was up to the Baileys of Illinois, the state would be wide open—including nursing homes.

According to Wallethub, Illinois ranked 31st in safest states during COVID.
I think this will be a far more important referendum on the efficacy of the Pritzker COVID lockdowns on public health and safety and the effect on the economy and Illinois families.
Neighboring states that did not have as severe of lockdowns with the exception of Michigan ranked Indiana 30th, Wisconsin 22nd, Missouri 26th, Iowa 28th, Minnesota 21st, Michigan, 51st.
Some states are already safer than others, though, based on how well they have kept the pandemic under control and how much they are vaccinating. This is an especially fun campaign ad because Bailey’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic if his statements as a buffoon are to believed would have resulted in a lot more dead Illinoisans.
This is a good/strong negative hit, and I’d give it at least a B+ but it is a terrible “Darren Bailey for Governor” video. What’s Bailey’s name ID gotta be? He’s not in a position where they should be trying to drag down Pritzker’s numbers unless they’re doing that by dramatically increasing Bailey’s own numbers.
This video could be run by any of his opponents. It does nothing to actually HELP his campaign and strongly suggests that whoever he is working with on his campaign doesn’t understand the fundamentals of Darren Bailey needing to first win the primary before he can lose the general election.
Any time, effort, or money his campaign spends talking about a possible opponent is time that they’re not actually advocating for his hamfisted candidacy. This video is a reflection of his over all failure to grasp big picture ideas and as a Darren Bailey for Governor video I give it a solid F.

Illinois will be dealing with the Pritzker administration’s response to COVID for the past 14 months for years.
Wishful thinking that it is yesterday’s news.
He will be graded on that as well as how robust the economic, educational and public safety recovery is and he won’t have a Republican administration as foil.

This ad will resonate with people who are aware of, and concerned about, the exceptionally poor functioning of a state run facility like La Salle. I think it will also resonate with many people who lost a loved one in almost any senior or long term facility during Covid. It’s effective and a B (at this point in time) because it taps into a real emotional sore spot with many Illinoisans with respect to how we as a society care for the most vulnerable.

Bailey can attack JB’s mismanagement all day. Fertile grounds include the LaSalle Veterans home tragedy, The IDES fraud debacle, and the drubbing that the “Fair Tax” vote took at the polls.

Chief executive officers from across the country have once again ranked Illinois as one of the worst states to do business.
Executives were asked their opinions of tax policy, regulatory climate and talent availability in each state. The only states that ranked lower than Illinois were New York (49th) and California (50th), with Texas, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Indiana rounding out the top five.
“Illinois has been at the bottom of the list throughout the survey,” Dan Bigman, editor of Chief Executive, told Crain’s
Notably, COVID-19 has executives rethinking where they do business, upping the stakes for states trying to attract new industries. Forty-four percent of those surveyed said they are “more open than before to examining new locations” for their companies, while 34 percent said they’re “considering shifting [or] opening significant operations [or] facilities in a new state,” according to the report.
Todd Maisch, president and CEO of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, says Illinois’ high property taxes are behind the state’s low ranking.
“High taxes are definitely a main factor why Illinois does not fare well when it comes to rankings,” he said. “And Illinois should be spanking Indiana’s butt in terms of places to do business. Indiana is a good place, but they don’t have the infrastructure we have and the fact that they are fifth when we are 48th is frankly an embarrassment.”

That’s a want of the framing.
Will any Raunerite candidate have the cash and the wherewithal to make that argument over someone who can spend $300,000 a day, every day, like last time?
You want “comparison”, that only happens if that candidate can try to control the message.
Bailey, here… has a… Facebook video… where he doesn’t even mention himself. It’s screaming at the converted.
Your ignoring how things will naturally be better versus any type of lockdown is a mistake to the playing field too.
Bears, Sox, Hawks, concerts, trade shows, state fairs, college athletics… they will have a whole year back.
Restaurants, businesses… whole year open.
You can’t say it’s bad… you want the argument to be “look at… them”
Need lots of cash for that nuance as schools are now open, high school athletics will be rolling…

I remember you saying JB has the money and savvy to drag the fair tax across the finish line too and no one will have the money to get the alternative message out.
How did that work out?
The alternative universe is also populated by more than just “Raunerite’s” and “Trumpkins” and next year’s elections will also have the backdrop of the Com Ed and multiple public corruption trials by Democratic public officials.
At least you will hopefully be able to sit in the stands at Soldier Field with your shirt off and your Bear helmet on.

Gotta say it’s a fair hit. JB roasted Rauner over the Legionnaires’ deaths, quite properly. And so everyone would expect a massive, focused effort to show the difference good management makes, in turning all the veterans’ homes around - I mean, it was a slam dunk highly visible campaign issue. One should expect it to have been ramrodded with a lot of personal oversight and visibly so, by JB…
…and what it looks like from here, and to voters, is that as soon as he was in office, he handed it off to the B team and just assumed it would be handled. And frankly that b team did even worse than Rauners’ people did. To make it worse, JB reaction time was slow. I get it that he was a little bit preoccupied. But what should have been a showcase for the new administration turned into a
major unforced error. This is easy to message to voters and it’s not going away.

I give it a C+. As was the case with Rauner, Pritzker will wear the jacket of what happened in LaSalle. But that in and of itself does not create any reason to vote for Bailey and particularly on matters of health and safety.
Pritzker took responsibility for his failings. Bailey held super spreader events.

I always struggle with ads that focus on the other candidate, and never advocate for the sponsor. In essence, there is no suggesting why I might vote for Bailey here. Just an argument against Pritzker.

Thing is, unlike the “Fair Tax”… an actual person running can be framed, as Bailey would be, and frankly is already a non-starter type candidate where most voters live… north of his house.
How long do you think Pritzker’s Crew will wait to define, say, Davis as “a Trump lackey who voted against impeachment after an insurrection”… or Bailey … “a downstate legislator wanting to break up Illinois, a covid denier, who put others at risk, even his own legislative colleagues”
As this video Bailey has here for us to rate, yep, it’s a hit, it’s as honest as Rauner and his own owning Quincy… but can Bailey handle $1.5, $2 million a week media buys for weeks?

Pritzker can counter by saying he saved thousands of lives, in and out of nursing homes, and Bailey and others would have caused thousands to needlessly get sick and die.
But this is one issue, big as it is. There’s the minimum wage hike, capital bill, marijuana legalization, union rights, Black Caucus legislation, Biden stimulus, economic recovery and more on which Pritzker can run. Raunerites and Trumpers can have fun running against that.

Very much so. JB won’t be graded relative to other states. Voters won’t know or care what things are like in other states.
JB will be graded relative to what people’s lives were like in the recent past. If peoples lives are better around election time than they were, say, a year ago (this is a ballpark figure; it may by 9 months, it may be 18), he’ll be rewarded. If peoples lives are worse, he’ll be punished. And it will all be in the context of a state that has a lot more Democrats than Republicans and the fact that JB will likely pretty easily outspend and out-hustle his opponent, so he could actually be punished a whole lot and still win.

Not a bad ad, going to give it a B. Could have been an A with a better narrator and a bit more focus on the failure. Some of the issues cited in the report would have worked well. Also “several people refused to cooperate with the investigation” would have added some additional weight.

Unless someone comes in and spends $150+ million to tout “Indiana” while Pritzker spends $250+ million framing the “opening of Illinois” and normalcy… and defining the likes of Bailey or Davis as they want… what exactly are you talking about?

There’s no majority constituency for folks wanting to be “Indiana”

“Bruce Rauner failed”

I’d give the video a B, based on it being from his Facebook page, which he controls. It will appeal to those who already follow him. Pritzker failed the veterans and their families. I can’t forget that.
However, this video would be oh-so-easy to counter on TV, radio, or other places open to rebuttal. Any opponent could easily use Bailey’s words and actions against him. Hypocrisy, thy name is Darren Bailey.

It is a good ad. The worst part about the ad is that it is from darren bailey. The reality of this issue is that it is true and disgusting and downright criminal how it was managed and handled by the governor. It is a complete shame and dereliction of duty that more democrats are not up in arms over this and calling for the attorney general to investigate this matter. In fact, they ought to be asking Lausch to investigate it, particularly since he is so interested in the legislative process these days. Perhaps he could get interested in protecting people’s lives.
