That’s one way to go about it. Can’t fault him for trying. There’s also been an ammo shortage so might not be a bad attempt. I’m curious what the conspiracy theorists will come up with on this one.

The governor maybe should sweeten the deal and offer “Pritzker S*cks” and “stop the steal”/Trump signs.
Many people unfortunately may be out of reach (but we should absolutely still try to help them), and maybe it’s better to focus more effort on the “gettable.”

The impression that I was left with is that the DNR site specific Facebook accounts are not managed by the agency at large but by individual managers responsible for the sites. Failing to put something like this on their Facebook page could be an expression of someone at a lower level of the administration specifically not liking the Governor. If you follow many state park pages this lack of central or even professional management is why some of those pages are all over the place and occasionally host content that might be an inappropriate use of state resources suggesting that they pages are also not centrally monitored.
So it not being advertised on the complex’s Facebook page may be suggestive of a structural issue at the agency caused by not firing enough appointees and filling those positions with qualified people that actually support the Governor’s positions. Either way, it might be a good idea for someone to publicly ask the DNR who is responsible for their park specific Facebook accounts and maybe ask for a copy of the social media policy they provide to those people.
To the core of the post — this is a good promotion idea that also comes off as pandering to the point where I would worry this could be mistaken for trolling.
Where is the incentives for other people — or is someone creating promotions based solely off of their stereotypes? What are the other public incentives they’re planning on rolling out?

“Never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by incompetence.” I suspect your latter explanation (lack of professional management and organization) is far more likely than an individual manager making a political stand.

Ammo for shots, now *that* would get people to line up. Can’t shoot at targets without something to shoot.
Tough to get ammo, though, when it’s in such short supply, and even when you do find it they won’t give it to you because the State is taking up to a year to send renewals out for expired foid cards.

Candy Dogood - you just saved me having to explain some of the very real issues with communication and what does and doesn’t get disseminated by DNR.
The hyper local reaction to this “incentive” has been horrible. (I’m a mere 6 miles from WSRC)
I honestly don’t anticipate that it’s going to garner a whole lot of support. Most in my neck of the woods are opining that it’s pandering on the part of the Gov.
And I have asked, repeatedly as a matter of fact, about the Facebook accounts and get no real answers. Best as I have learned - it’s individual site staff that are willing to take it on. So, some sites have good social media, some have none. Quite frustrating. Especially compared to neighbor MO and the robust communications departments that their natural resources related agencies have. ~ sigh~

I can’t speak for all shooters, but most of the people that will shoot at Sparta probably have hundreds (if not thousands) of rounds at home.

Free stuff…..IL residents — be they whack jobs or normal — always want free stuff. Lottery tickets, burgers, maybe 50% off a semester…. pick something …meanwhile 100 clay pigeons seems very attractive.

I say throw everything at the wall so I love this idea. JB makes sure vaccines are available everywhere, has to reassure people scared by GOPers screaming about vaccine passports (!!), and answer questions about what he personally is doing to convince more people to get vaccinated. Less complaining and more personal responsibility from everyone involved would be great.

We reap what we sow and we’ve never done a great job of addressing the impact of the Thompson administration’s illegal hiring scheme and the impact that has had on our state’s organizational cultures going forward. Like many things we like to pretend it would go away.

The missing ammo does put a damper on the 100 clays, yes there are people that still have a stockpile but that doesn’t necessarily mean want to spend a 100 rnds on clays. I wonder if Olin, who has a plant over by Hartford would be willing to pay some of their state tax bill in shells. Make it a 100 targets and shells that’s a much better offer. Give them the shells on the firing line if we must.
