Did a spit-take while reading yesterday’s Trib editorial
“When the Tribune and the Sun Times agree on policy,”
Specifically: “…city of Chicago provided $124 million in pension costs for CPS employees, not teachers, who belong to the municipal retirement fund…”
Chicago teachers belong to the municipal retirement fund? Really?
When did that happen?
Is this Katrina or the new management?

No, Chicago teachers are covered by the Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund. CPS employees other than teachers are covered by the Chicago Municipal Retirement Fund.
The situation is the same in all other districts outside Chicago - teachers are covered by the state’s Teachers Retirement System, other school employees are covered by the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.

Clifford is now 24 and suffers from a rare, terminal condition called Batten disease (www.bdsra.org). The ‘rona, resulting in lengthy hospital stays in November and March, has hastened some of the effects of the illness that have been in his futhre all along. Through it all he has maintained his spirit, his love of life and people, his faith, his innocence, his patriotism, and his love of the St Louis Cardinals.
So how is he? Besides the above, there are things he can still do. There are things that, as of this past fall, he’ll never do again.
He has always been accustomed to being a public figure, but Sunday’s events were impressive even by his standards, and by those of his jaded, 18-year-old brother, and maybe his beyond-jaded parents, too.
Thanks to all, including Mark and Rich for telling his story further.

Let’s find a way to move the end-of-session deadline to May 25 so everyone gets to observe Memorial Day every year. Everything would still get done at the last minute, just on a different day.

It’s shared on Channel 20’s page, but one of their Sinclair sister stations is reporting that a Florida concert is charging only $18 for vaccinated attendees. While charging non-vaccinated attendees $999.

May 25 is actually the earliest possible date of Memorial Day. Like it was last year.
I would go farther and say that end of session deadline needs to be much earlier, perhaps even April 30 or May 15.

Seriously, knowing some of what your family has been through recently with COVID and the “normal” things with you son… I am very glad to see everyone healthy.

Today is another day to appreciate being an Illinoisan, especially on Memorial Day, the day many gave all for the freedom that organized political efforts are trying to erode. Texas is trying so hard to strip voting rights that this morning’s failed legislative attempt will likely be taken up again in a special session. And the usual suspects want us to be like Texas? Let us count the ways why we should not do so.

Let us not forget the meaning of today and pause to remember the men and women who have died in service of this Country. From those who fought to found our Country, those who fought to eradicate the stain of slavery, those who fought the wars to end all wars, and those who fought the wars after and still fight today. Those who did not make it home paid in blood for the rest of us to have what we have and we strive to achieve as a Nation.
