Count state buildings (at least my office) as among those places still requiring people to mask and social distance, and still get temp checks when you arrive, even though we’re in Phase 5 now. Although I don’t want to resume normal pre-pandemic life anytime soon, especially crowds and going to busy restaurants.

I know this is the Dubuque paper’s editorial (but it does have Jo Daviess County circulation, maybe even as far south as Savanna), but the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald is basing a 34% rate of vaccinated young Gen Z youth (16-29) in Dubuque County to claim that young people and millenials are slow to get vaccinated.

My son (only child) is moving away in less than two months to go to college. It’ll be good for him but it’s all I’ve been thinking about lately.

That *is* a fascinating document collection. That very first letter, from the public bath attendants, tells us so much. And the letter comparing conditions in Chicago to “Grapes of Wrath”.

Illinois has reopened. Rich, I can’t tell you how much I have appreciated your work and the information that you provided throughout this pandemic. I don’t say this lightly, but I feel as though you have been as critical as a front line worker, especially for mental health and mitigation of anxiety. You were spot-on in analyzing so many covid scenarios. Again, thank you!

How we’re rushing this “reopening” stuff, when the town I live in is only 17.7% fully vaccinated, and neighboring towns run from 11.3% to 32%. (Cook County DPH data). And don’t rush to take that mask off in public settings anytime soon with numbers like this. State is 41.5% fully vaxxed; not even close to herd immunity level. (Mayo Clinic data). But I’ll be first up against the wall when the Revolution comes for spreading facts like these.

We need a lot of rain everywhere. During the summer my wife and I make an every other weekend trip to Madison, WI for the Dane County Farmers Market. Southwestern Wisconsin is in moderate drought conditions as well.
The White Sox Nick Madrigal tore his hamstring and is going on the 60 day IL effectively ending his season. So my current view of the Sox is that the very good and improving pitching staff needs to hold up until Jimenez and Robert get back later in the season. And we’ll see how good some of the minor leaguers are in being the next man up.

It will be interesting to see what public health habits stick around after the COVID pandemic. Hand washing, even by the medical profession, wasn’t mainstreamed in the public until after the so-called Spanish Flu in 1918-19.

Item 43 on that list of documents shared refers to Harold Dahl, a Champaign man who was condemned to death in Spain. I looked up his story (Wikipedia), and what an adventuresome life he led! He also comes off as a bit of a scoundrel.

No drought yet in central Illinois (but we could use more rain), but have had continuous days of slight rain chances daily since last Sunday in this hot, humid weather. Meaning a lot of “haves and have nots” on the rain (isolated downpours of at least an inch in one area but nothing a mile or less away).
Just in the last 24 hours, this map shows a lot of isolated rain totals in localized areas. Such as 1.28 inches south of Mechanicsburg while nothing in Springfield. Also downpours in excess of an inch near Yates City, LaHarpe, Tremont, and Tower Hill among others yesterday while most everyone else went without. Even those only a few miles away from the storm.
Also, Monday night parts of the east side of Springfield got over 3 inches of rain and street flooding while most of the rest of the area had little or nothing. The rain cells stalled out over the city early last Monday evening.
Would like to see a more widespread (but not heavy) rain to break this heat, even though the isolated stuff is fascinating.

@Essential - 1.5 at my house and .04 at the airport. Summer brings sporadic showers and downpours - its the hope that by the end of August it’s all evened out. So far its not too even.
A widespread .75 to 1 inch across all of Illinois would be great. Most the corn and soybean crop is still doing ok. It was planted in good soil conditions and rooted down quickly to mine sub surface soil moisture. But a big rain would be welcome.
