Hi, Rich. I wanted to share with you the Secretary of State’s plans for reopening the Capitol Building and Stratton Building.
• The Illinois State Capitol Building and Stratton Office Building will be open to the public as of Monday, June 21, 2021. Until June 21, the current Secretary of State COVID-19 mask protocols will remain in place.
• Beginning June 21, members of the public entering the buildings will be informed that individuals who have been vaccinated are not required to wear masks or maintain social distancing; those who have not been vaccinated are requested to wear masks and maintain social distancing.
• Public tours of the Capitol Building will resume on June 21, and permits will be issued as of that date for gatherings, displays and demonstrations.
• Please note that offices within these buildings that are not under the control of the Secretary of State may adopt different protocols for access by the public.
Still waiting on the Senate’s protocols for next week.

House & Senate should open the gallery so citizens can observe their legislators at work.

Citizens can listen / watch their legislators online. Safety first.

I hope all state and federal agencies will be back to working in the office by July 1, 2021 and allow people inside the buildings to conduct business.
Rich, please post which state and federal agency buildings are opening for business in IL and when. Thank you

Everyone at Secretary of State has been back in person at work since June 1st Last Year. Right after Phase 2 ended as did stay at home orders.

Entered my fifth state capitol building this week. Illinois remains the only one I’ve been in with metal detectors.
I figured it was normal - so far it is not.

Have those Capitols had an officer lose their life in the line of duty?
Thanks.

@0W - I don’t know. My school has never had a shooting but the doors are still locked and I have to get buzzed in…
I just figured that all Capitols would have that level of security. Shocked to see that they don’t.
I never made it into the Capitol in Montgomery but I’ve been told of “knife rock” where all the good ole’ boys leave their pocket knife before going inside.

- Cool Papa Bell -
I guess I would be shocked if the Illinois State Capitol would change policy.

Not up to anything.
States rights and how states see safety, or schools too… that these is more reactionary then preventive.
