* Press release…
Democrat Alexi Giannoulias released a new ad in his campaign for Secretary of State today that features support from prominent progressive leaders.
The new ad, titled “Commitment”, includes endorsements from Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García and members of 22nd Ward Independent Political Organization (IPO). It showcases Giannoulias’ dedication to progressive causes and to the Latino community.
“His commitment to social justice is clear,” Garcia says of the former State Treasurer. “His commitment to voter rights, his commitment to ethics…let the community know that they have a trusted friend and ally in Alexi.”
The 60-second online ad also includes: Alderperson and Committeeperson Michael D. Rodriguez; Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) Commissioner Eira L. Corral Sepúlveda; 22nd Ward IPO President Vanessa Uribe; and State Representative Edgar Gonzalez Jr. (D-21st District).
Giannoulias adds: “We need leaders who are going to fight for fairness and equity and inclusion. For far too long, members of the Latino community especially have been underserved. We need to make sure that we have government services there for our underserved communities.”
The ad marks the second released by the Giannoulias campaign. The first ad launched in April, highlighted Giannoulias’ fight to successfully save jobs at Illinois suit maker Hartmarx and focused on the impact of the Covid crisis and the resulting hardships facing workers and middle-class families.

B-. Hits a target demographic, but I only heard one phrase (voter rights) that actually addressed job duties, ignoring the generic “services” at the end. Even as a Dem, I find the pablum about progressivism and justice to be uninspiring and unnecessary for an office that is mostly administrative.

It’ll be a great campaign for when he runs for Durbin’s seat in 24. Shoring up support now is smart. Don’t think Alexi’s number one stopping point is SoS.

A 3/10. A professional looking ad, but with no actual people in it. Just a handful of pols on a street.
Emblematic of the emptiness that is Alexi Giannoulias.
Talks about the need for “services.” Says nothing about what those services might be or how the secretary of state might provide them.

Not getting above a C from me until he actually recognizes what the job is. Having Rep. Garcia say he knows the job is nice but he has never demonstrated it or that he even cares. Also I’m gonna go out on a limb and say at least one candidate, Anna Valencia, knows the community better.

This gets a B. Good for them to get a clip together with people saying his first and last name.
But where have you been, Alexi?
===For far too long, members of the Latino community especially have been underserved.===
How so?

Interesting to see Chuy and part of his team get behind AG. I wonder where the other members of his team are? Ortiz? Ramirez? Anaya? Villanueva?

If he was running for governor bit would merit an A-/B+. But as a SOS AD? No better than a C. Jesse White’s popularity doesn’t stem from his work on equality and representation. He keeps the place running efficiently which is what the job requires. I support Alexi’s message but it’s not what gets me to vote for a SOS.

For fun I searched Illinois Dash for Cash website for Giannoulias and saw and his family have a lot of unclaimed property. Makes me wonder if he knew how that office worked and now he’s running for a more important one.

It’s a B-
It’s seems too stilted and staged with “leaders” speaking for someone who’s been MIA and seemingly running for an office by not expressing any thought to how the office is or works.
Alexi is the only candidate in that side running a campaign with three demential thinking. The Republicans have an opportunity to get back a big office if Alexi wins. This ad is another step towards distancing the others.
Still, it’s a B-

Not sure if running an ad *entirely* about your endorsements from other politicians is exactly the best thing, but probably fine enough for the primary.

An ad on endorsements? Now? C.
