Road Trips to Reach Record Highs
While all modes of travel will see increased demand this Independence Day, road trips continue to dominate this summer. Despite the highest gas prices in seven years, more than 91% of holiday travel will be by car.
An expected 43.6 million Americans will drive to their destinations, the highest on record for this holiday. In Illinois, 2.5 million residents will be going by car, which is 8% more than the previous record set in 2019.
“Road trips provide a sense of freedom and more control over the duration of your trip,” said Molly Hart, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Even more expensive gas prices are unlikely to deter Americans from that road trip many have waited more than a year for. If anything, motorists are more likely to cut back on other expenses like lodging and dining out, to offset the higher cost of fuel.”
* The Question: Planning any road trips this summer? Where to?

No road trips planned for this summer. For future vacations I’ll be working to convince family to take lower-carbon options. Our current vehicles are not particularly fuel efficient or good for the climate.

Nothing planned, but when my sibs come to town next month, we might do an overnight to Geneva or Galena. Depends on whether we can fit it in with all we have to do in the city.

helping son move from Tampa, FL to Austin, Tx so a southern road trip along I-10. We are going to take 3 days to be able to enjoy some southern food stops along the way. Also, I’m sure the wife and I will be driving to Austin, Tx before school starts and will see some relatives on way back as she hasn’t been to southern/Metro East Illinois for a few years as that is where she is from.

Last two weeks of July, heading over to Indianapolis for 3 days, then on to Dayton (OH) for a week with some family, up to Michigan to visit another family member, then back across to the Chicago ‘burbs to visit another. Then heading down Route 66 to McLean before heading back over to my side of the state.

I will find my way to Galena, for sure, in the coming weeks.
I may end up in Charleston (SC) for a spell but that’s not all fully figured in
Drive, (obviously for Galena) and will enjoy both the long and short(er) road trips

Palestine, Illinois.
Why???? you ask.
Because the SO is from Jordan, and wants to take a picture by the town sign so that he can show it to his friends and family overseas.
(He also wants to go to Hebron, Illinois, and all the other Palestines and Hebrons in the U.S.)
