When you talk to your typical establishment politician, they’re going to tell you the same old, same old. They’re going to tell you that ‘Well, I think we have to have a moderate Republican to have any chance of winning the governor’s seat.’ Friends, I want to tell you, there shouldn’t be any such thing as a moderate Republican because a moderate Republican votes for things that are completely against the Republican platform. So I don’t know, maybe there needs to be a third party develop, or maybe some of these moderate Republicans probably need to slide over and run on the Democrat ticket. […]
Just a few days ago, many, many students were calling this coming week and next week to begin enrolling and taking their children to colleges here in the state of Illinois. Just a few days ago, many of these parents began receiving a letter stating that ‘Oh yes if you’re not vaccinated you can’t come on campus.’ So here’s what’s happening and here’s why all this has happened. Governor Pritzker, the governor hand picks the trustees of these colleges. The governor hand picks the people that serve on the Illinois State Board of Education [sic]. They’re not going to do what they want to do, they’re doing what the governor wants to do. So that’s what happens when we have a rogue and tyrannical leader at the helm that wants things his way. That’s why all this is coming.
So, you know, again, stand up to these colleges. Tell them of your disgust on this. And then you’re gonna have to make a hard decision. And that’s simply, probably, pulling your student out of that college and enrolling them in a college that is not going to require vaccinations. That’s what this is all about about. This is a sacrifice, this is the hard part of living in a free Constitutional Republic.

As Republican operatives were dropping U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis’s name as the next potential rival to run against Gov. J.B. Pritzker, the GOP congressman was in southern Illinois visiting a coal plant that could get shut down if the governor gets his way.
Davis used the visit to criticize the governor’s support for a sweeping energy plan that could shutter every coal-fired power plant in Illinois by 2035, an idea many opponents lambast as one that will kill jobs and hike rates.
Davis called on Pritzker, a Democrat, to spare the Prairie State Energy Campus in Marissa, located south of East St. Louis. The plant provides power to municipalities in eight states, including a swath of Davis’ 13th Congressional District.
“The municipally owned Prairie State power plant is the cleanest coal-fired power plant in the nation,” he said during his June 18 visit. “The company is actively pursuing and adopting additional carbon sequestration and storage and emissions-reducing technologies, and they should receive support from state and federal agencies for their efforts.” […]
His office did not respond to our inquiry asking for evidence to back that up.
Experts told us there are multiple metrics by which to assess how “clean” a coal plant is, but federal data shows Prairie State does not come out at or near the top on any of them.

The Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association (IDCCA) is proud to announce United States Senator Jon Ossoff (GA) as the guest speaker at the annual County Chairs’ Brunch.
The County Chairs’ Brunch has a history of attracting some of the highest national officials and is a premier event for Illinois Democrats. In previous years, the County Chairs’ Brunch has had the pleasure of hosting Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (CA), US Senator Amy Klobuchar (MN), and Mayor Pete Buttigieg (South Bend, IN) in the great state of Illinois.
Sen. Ossoff won his seat in the 2020 Georgia run-off, which gave Democrats the crucial 50-seat threshold in the United States Senate. This allows Vice President Kamala Harris to be the tie-breaking vote.
IDCCA President Kristina Zahorik released the following statement.
“I remember just this past January when we all had Georgia on our mind — we waited anxiously to see if Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock would help tilt the balance of the Senate in favor of the Democrats. They did, and we are seeing the fruits of our labor as Democrats in Washington pass legislation like the American Rescue Plan to help our country build back better. Jon Ossoff was the right candidate for the job, and we’re honored to have him join us in Illinois to inspire us to keep our Democratic majority in 2022.”
This year’s Brunch to kick off Democrat Day (now Governor’s Day) at the Illinois State Fair will take place on Wednesday, August 18th at 9:00 am CT at the Crowne Plaza Springfield. More information is available at www.ildccabrunch.org.
That annual brunch has been hugely successful for the IDCCA, but the Democrats haven’t been able to build on that for their concurrent Governor’s Day event. People got tired of listening to the same speeches delivered twice in a few hours, but instead of trying to find another way to interest attendees, the Democrats have basically given up and just hold a reception.

Thankfully unless the student is still under 18 the decision is theirs and not their parents’ decision, though parents can still coerce them financially and otherwise. I hope they don’t. Let the young adults make their own decisions. Education is a danger to people like Bailey and their lies and misinformation.

Sen Bailey’s comments are especially unhelpful in light of emerging data that Americans under 24, are one of the most-unvaxxed subgroups that governments are scrambling how to persuade before “Delta 2.0″ or some other new variant comes along.

So, let me get this straight… he is advocating for a third party to start of moderate Republicans or that those same Republicans also just move over to the Democratic Party. Good luck with that if his group wants to have any relevance politically in Illinois in the foreseeable future!
Also, he wants students and parents to reject Illinois colleges and universities and move out of state. Aren’t he and his ilk the ones decrying the outward migration of people from Illinois? Bahhhh!

If Illinois has 70% at least with one dose of vaccine, Bailey advocating a college boycott helps the majority get more students educated and denies the Covidiots an education to “own” the majority.
Pritzker couldn’t ask for a better possible opponent… if Bailey can ride “old, angry, white, rural, anti-vaxxing” to the nomination.

If Davis is afraid of Mary Miller, why’d he want to run for gov? He’ll be facing a similar electorate except statewide. Moderate Republicans like Edgar, Big Jim, and Topinka are a thing of the past. DuPage isn’t ruby red anymore and county board is blue.

Just set up vaccination stations at each public university, the week of Freshman orientation or earlier, for anyone to use, and then require masks until a month after the final dose.
The young folks are often better informed than their parents on political and science issues.

The only requirement is that a college student needs to have a vaccination, or they must wear a mask and continue to submit to COVID testing.

Yes stand up to these colleges that have waiting lists by having more applicants than accepted spots. The number of colleges requiring vax seems to be growing quickly. If I am a college student and a vax allows a return to normal parties, concerts, a social life and time in the library, what will I choose? Tough decisions.

They were already doing this in the Spring. My kid was fully vaccinated before they came home for the Summer. For incoming students they are saying get it wherever you can, but here are the dates you need to meet to be set by the time classes start. I’m sure they will continue to offer them on campus as well but on a smaller scale.

If I were an of age college student and had a chance to win $1 million or even $100,000 just by getting a COVID-19 vaccination, that might outweigh Baileyism. And as others are pointing out, there are other vaccinations that are required for attending college/university, as well as pre K-12. Is he encouraging boycotts on those as well???

To the extent there are any moderate Republicans left they seem to have been largely rendered speechless. It used to be that when someone advanced fringe ideas they would be called out on it by the party itself. Today all we hear is crickets. If the ILGOP hopes for relevancy in the near or even long term they need to start calling out this nonsense. Otherwise Bailey is right. Moderates should form their own party or become Democrats. Because if this kind of behavior goes unchecked the only conclusion I can draw is that this is the modern GOP.

They’re quick to bemoan that the Democrats are taking their concerns seriously while they continue to see the suburban voters they represent leave the party. If the ILGOP is going to make a case for relevancy in this state it starts with the two minority leaders. And if it’s not them than who?

I believe one of Bailey’s biggest campaign contributors is also a big contributor to Mary Miller. It’s a battle to have a position dumber than Miller’s so he can wrap up that money.

I had the pleasure of being in a meeting a few years back that Bailey and some of his GOP House colleagues attended.
After a bit of conversation, Bailey finally weighed in. You could almost hear the eyes of his colleagues roll - like the sound of a gumball rolling in an old gumball machine.
Many of the GOP of today are caught between their principles and an electorate that still holds to the belief that Trump won the election.
Were it not for their denser far right constituents that Trump and Bailey appeal to, many of Bailey’s colleagues would kick him off the bus in a heartbeat.

Give the coal plant incentives to convert to natural gas. Fast track the gas pipe permits and waive any unnecessary hoops to jump through and any other red tape. Give them tax breaks on the new equipment.

Or perhaps Bailey’s comment was taken out of context, and he knew this already. At least for NIU, they have several different exceptions - medical, religious, personal. But some people have zero attention span.

Chair been on the board since 2017 (pre-JB)
Vice-Chair (doesn’t say, will point out the guy founded a consulting firm a ton of my fellow CS graduates went to work for)
Bob Pritchard — Former Republican state house member.
Guy on the board since 2007, works for the Painters union and has a PH.D (so yeah he is likely a Dem) but appointed pre-JB, think I may have known him in school actually.
Fairly confident a majority of these folks pre-date JB.

They have two exemptions, medical and religious. The religious requires more than because I don’t want to take it so personal is not an exemption. Medical is legit as immunocompromised folks and those allergic cannot take vaccines safely. We owe it to those folks to protect them by getting vaccinated ourselves.
Religious is largely nonsense as there are no major faiths that are against vaccinations . It should be at least as tough to get as conscientious objector status. Thus Christian Scientists and Dutch Reform may quality, but hardly anyone else.

EUA is likely to be gone at some point in the school year so it’s pointless to not get one now.
in the mean time, all students exempted will will also be tested weekly and be required to wear a mask indoors.

I don’t think there are any moderate Republicans left. He just doesn’t know how many have left unless they pulled Democratic ballots in the primary. Many just didn’t vote on the primary or went ahead and pulled a Republican ballot and left it mostly blank. The primary doesn’t really matter when the current incumbent is running unopposed in the general election.
Based upon the lack of mask wearing by the unvaccinated, I think this fall is going to be miserable again.

This is so insane. I have friends in Arizona who work for a FAANG tech company, and since AZ just passed a law to teach history GOP-style in K-12 schools, their company is quietly offering relocation packages to employees who want to move out of the state, as employees started expressing fear that their kids wouldn’t be able to pass AP tests or be accepted to good colleges if they were forced through the new AZ high school history curriculum, and started getting in touch with recruiters the day the law passed.
States that do things like Bailey suggests are going going to suffer accelerating brain drain, because well-educated parents don’t want their kids NOT getting Covid shots, or being at risk at college because other people refuse to get vaccinated. And they don’t want their kids suffering under the suite of GOP education mandates that deliberately make children less-educated. Harvard’s not going to effing care that Arizona is run by a particularly dumb iteration of the GOP; Harvard’s going to care that your kid failed the AP US test because they weren’t taught the root causes of the Civil War because hearing that “slavery” was one of them hurts Republicans’ feelings.

Right??? The FDA was like, “Hey, can we put this experimental mRNA vaccine in your 12-year-old?” and my only question was, “Can I bring him in ON his birthday or do we have to wait until the day after?”
(Our one concession as a family to its EUA status is that my spouse and I staggered our shots, so that we wouldn’t both be down with side effects at the same time, and just in case one of us had a catastrophic reaction.)
I was the tiniest bit anxious about giving it to my kids, but we watched a NOVA episode about how mRNA vaccines work that explained it really really well. And my mom reminded me that when I was about 13, I voluntarily enrolled in phase-I clinical trials for the Hepatitis A vaccine in children, and that I was both excited and proud to be part of testing a vaccine that would save lives. (And that, of course, my own children have now received.)

That student is an adult. If you are “pulling” your adult student out of college for any reason - that’s telling on yourself more than you think.

Yeah, parents, listen to Bailey and pull your kid out of the Illinois college that accepted him. Good luck at this date getting accepted at an out of state school.
