Excellent

Google has done it again.

The online giant has added a new map search that is leaps and bounds above the competition.

Not only can you search for a specific address, but you can input the name of a business or a bunch of other stuff. I’m still playing with it, and it’s in Beta form, but I like what I see so far.

  1. This map thing is AMAZING. I spent a good half hour playing with it when I should have been doing homework.

One odd quirk, though - for some reason, I can’t get it to yield the correct location of my college (University of Illinois at Springfield).

I figured out that it can be messed up with places putting the names of other organizations on their website. For example, if you search for “John Wood Community College, Quincy, Illinois” one of the results you get is the Illinois State Police Headquarters in Pittsfield. I found out it thinks it’s associated because the community college has a webpage with a list of emergency phone numbers, one of which is the phone number for the State Police.

Aside from the little quirks, the rest of it is astounding. The directions feature is incredible.

  4. Try this one: Link(not nearly as kind to the Representative…!)

This is fun! I’ve found a new party game!

I reallly like how the map scrolls left/right with the arrow keys, it’s so smooth!

  5. Have you seen the yellow pages at www.a9.com? There are interactive photos of the addresses in ten major cities.
