Plans for a bipartisan committee to investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection fell apart Wednesday after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) moved to block two controversial Republicans appointed by Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from sitting on the panel — paving the way for two separate and largely partisan investigations of the violent attack on the Capitol.
Pelosi called on McCarthy to name two new Republicans to the committee after refusing to appoint conservative Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Jim Banks (R-Ind.), a privilege she has as speaker. As staunch backers of former president Donald Trump, both members voted against his impeachment and pushed to overturn the election results certifying Joe Biden as president.
“With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these Members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee,” Pelosi said in a statement. “The unprecedented nature of January 6th demands this unprecedented decision.”

“Too bad Congressman Davis isn’t as hysterical about insurrectionists storming the Capitol as he is about fundraising deadlines. Rodney Davis has never cared about finding the truth of the Jan. 6 insurrection and is only focused on proving his credentials as an extreme GOP Trump-loyalist. We see through his hypocrisy and don’t need Rodney Davis in Illinois or the halls of Congress.”

Well now that’s just disappointing…I was honestly hoping that he would be one of the more reasonable voices on the GOP side. It’s a shame McCarthy won’t recommend Kinzinger…or maybe the Dems could. It’d be nice to have the two reasonable voices, Kinzinger and Cheney, have a voice here.

The committee member choices were designed, 2-fold
* Make Pelosi scrap it (the committee) at jump street, claim victory, call everything a sham to protect the cult and cult leader.
* Actually convene and (as Davis gaslights in his letter) make a mockery and be as disingenuous to the insurrection as possible to appease the cult and cult leader.
Davis, a real phony, embraces the “sham” gaslighting, and makes clear, “Mr. Bipartisan” was never about holding accountable those who incited an insurrection, but feed the lemmings; racists, conspiracy theorists… and let the insurrectionists off the hook.
That’s not how you become Illinois’ governor in a primary or general election.
This is real pandering to the marks who will give money to those who support the cult and all the vile that supporting the cult means… with Jim Jordan leading the way.

This type of letter …and follow through (hanging with Jim Jordan, becoming cult like in thinking, defending insurrectionists) … it’s ruinous to one’s character, and this stink, this stench, this soiling of your soul to appease cult followers…

I know that only a few people here, like me and Filmmaker Prof, have the displeasure of having “Where’s Rodney?” as our Congress critter.
This fundraising email he sent out today?
“Where’s Rodney?” has always been like that.
This isn’t new behavior, or a new attitude from him.
The boy’s a weasel, but the folks in DC love the money his parents made, and the Republicans back here keep falling for his schtick.
With any luck at all, he and Mary Miller will be fighting against each other, and we’ll get to see an Olympic-level competition between them as to who can out-stupid the other.
(Some of you will reach for popcorn. I’ll be in the bathroom, retching.)
I only hope that God loves Champaign-Urbana enough to get us in another district.
“Where’s Rodney?” has always crawled this low, through the stables and cow lots and pig pens of this district.
That stink ain’t just from Jim Jordan.
You’re finally just getting to see what those of us who are smart enough to vote against him have always known.
He should have never gotten to this level of responsibility. Our district, our state, and our nation have been impoverished by the time he’s spent being a Congress critter.

Davis’ behavior brings to mind the scene from “The Exorcist”- head spinning and pea soup spewing. And as for being THE ONE to expose lies… narcissism at his best. Remember, Davis was one of the Republicans that used extremely hostile language when having to go through metal detectors at the Capitol just after the 6th. Frankly, what he’s pleading for in his fundraising plea is exactly what he was shouting at Capitol police on January 12th, 2021- ” Another representative, Rodney Davis of Illinois, was heard shouting that the checks were ‘horses***.’ Davis went through the metal detector, but then came back and was heard telling House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., that the new measures were ‘bulls***,’ and they were diverting valuable resources. The last thing McCarthy wants is a real investigation. His play is the hope that he can dirty up Pelosi’s committee enough that he can get away with not testifying against Trump.

Absolutely. Both parties are represented. And the Dems gave one of their seats to a Republican, so it could be 7-6 if McCarthy hadn’t pulled all his Republicans off the committee.
Of course, while empty-headed “BIPARTISAN” sloganeering is your thing right now, it’s not actually all that essential. If the committee is bipartisan, but doesn’t actually get anything done, then it doesn’t matter. Similarly, if Rodney Davis sponsors a lot of bills with Democrats, but none of them pass, it doesn’t matter. Don’t be so shallow.

(Similarly, the origin of the insurrection was Trump refusing to accept the reality that he lost and lying to his supporters that he’d been cheated. But the Committee won’t really be investigating those origins so much as the security failures that allowed those supporters to storm the Capitol, as well as determining if there was any explicit communication and planning between Trump’s outfit and the insurrectionists.)

Speaker Pelosi said she wanted a 9/11 type bipartisan committee to investigate January 6th.
There were 5 Republicans and 5 Democrats on that committee and the report was widely viewed as serious an non partisan
The 1/6 committee had Democrats appoint 8 members and the Republicans 5 but then two of those were removed by the Speaker.
Amazing how the Democrats are never held to account by so many for playing partisan games instead of solving real problems

The hypocrisy of your statement is insane even for you. The will of the voters was expressed in a victory for President Joe Biden. that is first and foremost.
That will has been resoundingly rejected by the loser cult. Everyone does, it is just that some on the right are dishonest and want to deflect from their attempt at a coup d’etat.

And she passed a bill for that kind of commission through the House.
Then Republicans filibustered it in the Senate.
So Pelosi set up a select committee in the House, because otherwise, there just couldn’t be any investigation at all. She gave her party- the majority party, the party most people voted for in 2020- just a 2 seat majority on the Committee. And then she *still* gave one of her party’s seats to a Republican.
Now, that Republican will continue to serve on the committee, so it’ll continue to be Bipartisan. The only reason she’ll be the only Republican on it is that McCarthy pulled all the other ones off it. That’s on him, that’s his actions. I’m sure the “party of personal responsibility” won’t go so far as to say that *someone else* is responsible for his actions, right?

A one-off, list-building “fundraising” email probably won’t really mean much for Davis’ Gubernatorial race, if that’s all it is.
But if it’s a signal that he wants to or think he needs to cozy up to the lunatic fringe in his party, well, continuing down that path will create unnecessary challenges for him in a statewide General Election. Illinois has had a lot of chances to join the Trumpists, and its passed each time. In fact, it usually goes with the guys who are a little over-the-top in their anti-Trump rhetoric.

To my recollection, the above referred to 9/11 commission investigation did not consist of any pro Al-Qaeda faction members.
Perhaps calling upon her rejected domestic members for testimonial investigation into why they think there was no harm done on January 6th would be appropriate.

The 9/11 Commission was independent. When Pelosi proposed a similar, independent 1/6 Commission, it would have an equal number of members appointed by both parties. However, an independent commission was killed by the Republicans in the Senate.
The committee approved by the House that Davis was appointed to is similar to the Select Committee on Benghazi, approved by the House when it was controlled by the Republicans. The membership of that committee was 7 Republicans and 5 Democrats.

The 9/11 commission was not debate about the actual harm.
It was a common investigation about the mutually recognized harm.

Pretty much a case of too little too late by Rodney. They vote for Mary Miller because they get both her and her husband with one vote…family values don’tcha know.
