I throughly enjoyed last night’s Cubs game.

I honestly don’t understand why people are upset about wearing masks in schools when the Delta variant is more dangerous for children who are also unable to get a vaccine. Masking will save kids’ lives. What am I missing?

So the tree my neighbor spent hours trimming this past weekend (did a nice job of it too), had the limb coming up from the ground he trimmed snap in half in the wind we got yesterday.
Took out chunks of a different neighbors roof.

The Cubs dumped Lester and signed Arrieta.
This whole season…

Would appear to me so many of the anti mask anti vaccine people went so far down the rabbit hole when the virus first started they can’t bring them selves to say they were wrong about:
1. It’s just the flu.
2. It will all be over after the 2020 election.
3. Masks don’t work.
4. Vaccines are dangerous and harm countless people.
5. Children don’t get COVID.
They have been told and repeated countless false statements and they simply can’t stomach being so wrong about so many things.

Came across a Sun Times Insert dated April 5, 1959 with Pictures and Rosters of the Both the Cubs & Sox - Ernie & Nellie and others well remembered, but others whose names had faded , and a few not sure I ever knew - Those were The Days

The State Fair Queen churning out the puns yesterday at the unveiling of the butter cow has just about restored my faith in humanity. Ty Mark Maxwell for the tweet.

It’s not out of the question that the Cubs could lose 100 games this season. They’d have to go 10-36 or worse from here on out. They have lost 9 of their last 10, so it’s plausible, although they do play the Pirates 7 times in September, so there’s that.

I thought the State Fair Queen this year was utterly fantastic.
As a commentator pointed out, she was speaking without notes before a large crowd and had no margarine for error.
I thought she frankly got butter and butter as she covered her topic.
Her speech is really worth a look and will certainly help you moo through the day with a smile.

Weather in Dyersville, IA should be perfect for tonight’s Sox-Yankees Field of Dreams game.
Surprised that the game wasn’t Sox-Twins since Dyersville is almost the midway point between the Cell and Target Field (unless they wanted to stick with teams that also existed in 1919).

Then on the way home (or on the way to) Dyersville to Field of Dreams, there’s also two other historic baseball sites on the way back to Chicago. Little Cubs Field in Freeport and the remnants of Byers Stadium in Rockford (where the Rockford Peaches of “League of their Own” fame played 1943-54). Also the Chisholm, MN scenes in “Field of Dreams” were actually filmed in Galena–and the Boston scenes in that movie (other than at Fenway) were actually filmed in Dubuque.

the Field of Dreams game tonight is probably appropriate because the movie is in great part about the Sox and references the Yankees because of the childhood and father and NY. apparently the Cubs play there next year but there is no connection to the movie. Giants yes, even Tigers as Ty Cobb is mentioned. script of movie available on line. good read.

What a game! Adam Wainwright (39y 346d) is the oldest pitcher to throw a shutout on 88 pitches or fewer since pitches have been counted (1988).

Our school board voted 5-2 to follow the Governor’s EO to require masks. The vocal minority is not happy. School starts next Wednesday. Should be interesting first day of school.

If you offered to pay me a million bucks not to choke up and cry at the final “have a catch” scene…I couldn’t collect.

you know things are going bad for Cubs fans when I actually feel sorry for them. the Tricketts sold off the staff and no one could figure out how to manage Arietta? here’s hoping that another team does not pick him up and fix him or Cubs fans would really be in pain.

The Cubbies; Slow motion crash and burn to a losing season, or a slump?
Covid Denyers, Anti-Vacciners, Anti-Maskers: Your lies have become more than tiresome; they are a danger to public health.
Rain, rain, is it doing any good, or just running off?

Des Moines Register has cool coverage of the Field of Dreams set up. Frank Thomas dressed as James Earl Jones character really got to me. the team has arrived and they are in the old school unis. can this be healing for the 1919 Sox?

Cubs are on their way to their 8th loss in a row. 13-1 Brew Crew top of 7th.
Meanwhile, Cardinals did what they were supposed to do this afternoon and swept the even more hapless Pirates in Pittsburgh. But only winning 7-6.

And in other news, the Cubs commemorate the historic inaugural Field of Dreams game over 200 miles west of Wrigley by reliving the magical Dale Sveum era. And the immortal ‘62, ‘66, ‘81, ‘97, and other magical Cubs seasons too numerous to mention.
