It’s not even 9:30 and an independent businessman/repairman from the neighborhood that I’ve never met/hired before has fixed my dishwasher and is poised to fix my washing machine (part ordered). I’m feeling a bit optimistic about people in general today. And optimistic about my appliances.

Hopin’ Capt Fax drops some major coin on a big animal and then announces huge BBQ free for all his adoring fans.
Ouch just woke up …looking for some great days of harness racing, gawking and GOPies being GOPies

Cubs are 3 losses away from setting a franchise-record 15-game losing streak. Will they do it Friday?

Saw the Dead last night in Raleigh, NC. The venue only allowed vaccinated people in and the system worked really well. Band sounded amazing, put on a great show. Felt very normal again. Better times ahead.

We spent the entire day (10-10) at the State Fair with the grandkids yesterday. They’re finally the age to enjoy the big rides, so watching them was a blast.
The grounds were populated but you didn’t have to worry much about social distancing. The only time it was crowded was after about 7pm in the carnival midway area … and very that wasn’t super crowded. They were even doing spacing in small groups of 4 or 5 in places like the fun houses.
Some other observations:
They are not running the teams this year, so be prepared to walk a LOT.
Some activities were canceled. For example, we walked to Conservation World by they had cancelled the bb gun range which the grandkids particularly wanted to do.
The Exposition Building is a ghost of it’s former self; I’d guess a fourth to a third of the regular vendors aren’t there.
And from what we observed, no one is enforcing the ‘masks in buildings’ rule. However, the buildings did have more air circulation than normal with all the windows open and large fans everywhere.
Oh yeah, not unexpectedly, food prices are higher than even. If you haven’t gone yet, the deals were corn dogs at Vose and hamburgers at The Shed.
Now it’s time for more Advil …

4-H, county fairs, prize ribbons and trophies, the state fair and the 4-H barracks. Memories of rites of summer.

Why is Chicago Clerk running statewide again?

Disappointed that Pritzker is not doing anything to enforce his mask mandate.

Why is a guy who lost so badly for US Senate, never to be heard from again until recently running?
