* WGN-TV/Emerson College poll taken August 13-15 of 1,000 Chicago residents with a MoE of +/- 3 percent…
About 45.9% of those polled disapprove of the job Lightfoot is doing as mayor, 42.5% approve of her performance and another 10.8% are unsure or have no opinion.
These numbers represent a shift from the start of the summer. On June 1, Lightfoot’s approval rating among Chicago voters was 48%.
Also under water with Chicago residents, but by a much wider margin, is Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx. Just 34.7% of Chicagoans polled approve of the job the county’s top prosecutor is doing overall, 47.7% disapprove and 15.9% are unsure or have no opinion. […]
By an overwhelming number, Chicagoans still think crime is the number one issue facing the city. Of those asked, 44.2% said their top concern was crime — that’s more than three times for any other issue. The city’s handling of the deadly COVID-19 virus came in second at 12%, followed by education/schools at 7.8%, health care at 7.3% and police reform at 7.2%. […]
In the wake of the shooting death of Chicago Police Officer Ella French, support for the police force is growing overall. One week after French was shot to death during a traffic stop on the South Side, 70% of residents who were polled say they have at least a somewhat positive opinion of CPD. That’s an uptick of 10 points since June 1. As of Aug. 15, 23% have a somewhat or very negative opinion of the Chicago Police Department and just 7% are unsure.

The drumbeats against Foxx have been going on since the beginning, but she still won her reelection primary. Everyone in Chicago hates their elected leaders…until they see the opposition.
Lori’s fate is dependent on whoever the CTU gets behind and if they’re someone people won’t panic over. I don’t think anyone to the “right” of Lori is going to find footing.

It’s hard to see any candidate winning the support of CTU and SEIU that can also take advantage of the 70% support for police in Chicago.
The progressives have jumped the shark. I wish the aldermanic races were sooner. A new map and an increasingly anti-criminal electorate is going to bring major change to the council.

That’s 37% who view the CPD “very positively” and about 33% who view it “somewhat positively.” I’d be leery without more analysis, of lumping those two groups together, in terms of whom they’d consider voting for.

Foxx isn’t going anywhere unless she is primaried by a single candidate, which I don’t see happening.

The main thing you keep missing is… to the politics… gotta find someone who can beat her and her unorthodox constituency that I can’t figure out… and this so angered… who exactly can get Lightfoot to a runoff.

OW. I have a hard time following Chicago politics(even more so since the daughter has moved to Springfield), it does seem like the mayor has some issues. She will be contested

think Lightfoot will not run again, cause no one likes her. Foxx is there until the next race, unless some crazy thing happens with ARDC and she gets suspended—that report held in secret– in which case Toni still won’t make her resign but should. Foxx is an absolutely terrible public official. the remap in Chicago is gonna be acrimonious, but who will keep the mouths of the Trumpers in Council shut so some actual real mapping can go on that will not, once again, cut out wards which represent the white people who live there and perhaps create another ward on the North side. who gives the Black Alderpersons the news that they should be decreased in numbers and how does that get done? In the meantime, what to do about crime? everybody but the Cook County authorities seems to know that people are out on bond with or without an ankle monitor and doing terrible things. stop telling us about percentages and deal with actual cases.

Random attacks by miscreants on Divvy bikes— attacking tourists and shoppers on State Street, Michigan Avenue, the Near North. Throwing rocks at folks on McClurg Court. Don’t feel safe at all.
It’s catch and release with no charges. This can’t continue.

Police reform at 7.2% is eye popping low.
COVID at 12% is curiously low, given the impact on so much of the city.
Schools in single digits, with school all but starting is startling.
But this…

… those polled may not think reform for police is needed as much as other things, but a mere 10% bump, and the given crime numbers in the polling… is there a real shift in what is or isn’t priority or is this snapshot reflective of a mood but not a movement?

Rising crime can be directly attributed to the pro-crime initiatives of Chicago, Cook County, and Illinois leaders. Lightfoot allowed the city to burn last summer. Foxx has made sure that the rioters and looters have not been prosecuted. As a matter of principle, Foxx believes that criminals should not be prosecuted and punished. Career criminals are arrested by the police but let go by her prosecutors. Felons guilty of gun-related offenses know that they will be let go to reoffend without any consequences. The thing is, even the most dyed-in-the-wool Democrats don’t like being victims of crime. It is no wonder that Lightfoot and Foxx have low approval ratings. Contrary to their belief that too many people are in caught up in the criminal justic system, the current crime wave we’re living demonstrates that not enough criminals are in prison. There will never be a Republican mayor or states attorney here, but is it too much to ask for a sensible Democrat like Eric Adams who opposes crime?
