House Exec posts hearing for climate/energy bill next Thursday morning

Posted in:

* The House Executive Committee has just posted a hearing for next Thursday morning, September 9. The bill is SB18, the climate/energy measure which passed the Senate this week. Speaker Welch is the chief sponsor.

It’s a virtual hearing, so we don’t know yet whether the posting signals a return to Springfield that day or not.

I’ve reached out with questions, so you’ll know more when I know more.

…Adding… A House Democratic spokesperson said she was told the posting was done primarily to be meet posting requirements “in case we do come back.” So, we wait.

  1. Nuclear power is clean reliable energy that puts need funds in the community. Let’s get the bill passed without playing politics.

  4. It’s difficult to fight a two-front war for truly clean energy. Until the renewable energy and related industries have the funding for multiple gigawatts per year of installations, there can be no significant reduction of fossil fuel emissions or escaping Exelon’s skillful extortion. Any deal has to include that as a minimum, and it appears that we’ll have to suffer the nuke industry’s shareholder welfare until then.

  5. It would be an unbelievable unforced error if gov & legislature don’t get this done. Despite all the talk about urgency on climate solutions they seem content to sit on 900 pages of agreed language for months while bickering over something that may or may not happen 24 years from now.

  6. ==in case we do come back==

    In case? Hope that doesn’t mean they “might not.”

  7. It is interesting how the agreed bill / private stakeholder process has some procedural shortcomings — there is value in getting language out and filed earlier in the process so others can see where there may be some omissions or mistakes. It would also be an upgrade if witnesses who submit written testimony could do so through the GA Dashboard and have those written statements publicly available. That allows for more nuanced and public discussion about issues. Other states do that and it’s really convenient. Maybe LIS can work on that.

    ===Nuclear power is clean reliable energy that===

    “is too cheap to meter”

    What they said about it in the 1950s.
