“They’ve subsided a little, they’ve flattened a bit, not the case numbers necessarily, but the hospitalizations, and so I’m pleased about that,” Pritzker said at an unrelated news conference in Aurora. “But until they start to come down the other side of this, we can’t lighten up on our mitigations, because, once again, we’re trying to defeat this so that people can go about their daily lives.”

Well, the first thing is, voters can vote those leaders out, because they’re not real leaders. They’re not standing up for the health and safety of the people in their communities. As you’ve seen throughout this pandemic, there have been local officials who’ve been unwilling to stand up for the people of their communities on a mask mandate. It’s perhaps now more important than ever, as we have our children back in schools, all across the state, that we’re trying to keep them healthy.
And it’s not just the mask mandate within schools that’s helping to keep those communities healthy. It’s obviously the indoor mask mandate. As we’ve seen hospitalizations and cases rise in the state, they haven’t come down. They’ve subsided a little they’ve flattened a bit, not the case numbers, necessarily, but the hospitalizations. And so I’m pleased about that. But until they start to come down the other side of this, we can’t lighten up on our mitigations because, once again, we’re trying to defeat this so that people can go about their daily lives.
One last thing, if you want to keep your business open, if you want to keep the economy going, we need people to wear masks.

This seems inappropriate to post given the focus this blog, but I want to address the VMA red herring because it would see that our friend Downstate thinks a photo from someone on a red carpet, or a performer on stage is indicative of having no COVID-19 mitigation protocols in place and comparing it to many of our dear local officials who refuse to enforce any COVID-19 mitigation public health policies. So, here it is, explaining why the VMA’s were safer than eating out in several of Illinois downstate counties.
===New York state is currently imposing a mandatory 14-day quarantine for travelers coming from dozens of other states with high rates of COVID-19 — but certain exceptions are being made. Stars traveling to New York City for the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) will not have to spend two weeks in quarantine.
According to New York State Department of Health (DOH) officials, the VMAs applied through DOH to allow individuals coming from travel advisory states to participate in the production of the show. This is in line with the methodology granted for professional sports, the department told CBS News via email.
“Similar to professional athletes, the VMA cast and crew are required to adhere to strict procedures which include quarantining when not working, wearing masks and appropriate social distancing, and rigorous testing during their stay. Exemptions to the travel advisory, which The Department has granted on a case by case basis, include individuals who have traveled to New York for medical procedures or funerals, as examples,” the DOH said.
Artists like Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga and Maluma are set to perform at the VMAs on Sunday, August 30. The city is working to ensure all participants wear masks, with an exception for performers when cameras are rolling.
Performers must also complete daily health checks and maintain six feet of social distance, unless work requires closer contact. The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment and Citywide Event Coordination Management will also conduct compliance checks during the production, along with the NYPD Movie and TV unit.
While these guidelines seem extensive, one of the most stringent restrictions, which applies to other travelers, will not apply to VMA performers.===
There have also been numerous events and performances in NYC that have required vaccination to attend as an audience member.

How can you make that statement when there are 0 icu beds in Southern Illinois and 16 percent in Chicagoland area I believe. Sure, the numbers might be stabilizing but the serve cases seem to be troubling.
